Update: We have found a solution, exports should work reliably now.

We are aware of the ongoing issues with our exporter and are actively looking for solutions. The program we use to copy the files (rclone) has difficulties syncing buckets that are modified at a high frequency. We have tried to address this by using versioned objects, but that creates a different problem which we believe is due to S3 noncompliance on our provider's end. We've notified their staff and will continue to look for a solution. Apologies for the delay.

The update to Mastodon 4.2.9 made it so all pages returned an error due to stricter proxy validation in the new version. This change was unfortunately not caught during testing, we apologize for the disruption. The update has been rolled back.

@stefan Yes indeed. We've already stopped advertising the discord last year and finally shut it down recently due to privacy concerns.

@BadassCoconut @stefan Mastodon is expensive to run, but our pricing is comparable to other managed services. The medium plan offers similar performance as masto.host's constellation plan. I wish we could offer it for less, but with rising hosting costs, that's unfortunately not feasible. There are much leaner fediverse servers such as GoToSocial, but Mastodon still has the best overall user experience right now (IMHO) -Jakob

In response to the recent spam wave, we've added hCaptcha support for our Mastodon users, which can prevent automated signups on your instance. To enable:

1. Sign up for hCaptcha and retrieve a site & secret key. https://www.hcaptcha.com/
2. Enter the keys in your application settings on our website
3. Wait 1-2 minutes for Mastodon to be restarted
4. Enable the captcha in Mastodon under Administration / Server Settings / Registrations

Unfortunately it looks like this issue is back, our workaround is no longer working. We've been told by Scaleway staff that they're working on a fix, so we hope it'll be resolved soon.

Update: We managed to reduce the error rate by >99%, everything should be back to normal now. Mastodon will retry most failed jobs automatically, but if you see any dead jobs from yesterday in your Sidekiq interface, it's recommended to retry them manually.

Resolution of our ticket is still pending, and other people reported the same issue, so we're positive it's caused by a faulty internal DNS. But most of its impact has been mitigated.

We have become aware of a DNS issue affecting Mastodon, which might delay or disrupt federation. We have logged a ticket and will update you once it is resolved. As a workaround, you can manually retry dead jobs from the Sidekiq interface.
