i'm not seeing a need for solutions to a dropping birth rate

i do think we need to take care of children who are already here

I’m participating in an archaeological dig this week at James Madison’s Montpelier. We’re focusing on homes of the enslaved. This program is free for descendants of the enslaved workers. My two housemates are descendants in their mid-late 70s and I’m already quite fond of them.

Luke: “you knew my father?”

Obi-wan: “Oh yes. That guy was a dick. Accidentally born stuffed full of magic force-bugs, lucked out a few times pod racing as a child, basically peaked there. Grew up an entitled, incompetent jackass. Crap pilot, liability in a fight, couldn’t stop acting like some crybaby incel even after one of the most powerful women in the galaxy inexplicably took a liking to him, finally carved up a kindergarten and got made an alt-right hero for it. [smiles] Flammable tho.”

I drove to Fredericksburg, VA just to visit Possum-bilities. It’s a store that sells work by local artists and supports possum rescue. Totally worth the 2 hour round trip drive. Pictured is Oliver, who had a head injury and intestinal blockage, but is fine and spoiled in his old age.

I’m still grieving the loss of Jill Sobule. What an amazing person. I’m glad I got to talk with her on the community radio show and to hang out with her at a house party (both years ago).

If Democrats do get back into federal office, give them time and space to fix what’s been broken. Stop the cycle of destructive impatience.

It’s going to take more than 4 years to rebuild and repair damage from these last 100 days alone.

Tune out the media and their distractions and the extremists and their promises of revolution and quick fixes.

Nothing will be getting fixed quickly. Rebuilding foreign alliances and destroyed agencies like The Forest Service alone will take generations.

I have the windows open today. I remember, when I was 15 years old, running a long wire antenna out the open window of my bedroom in the warm weather. At night, you couldn't see the far end. I would tune in stations from all over the Earth on my shortwave radio. It gave me a sense of connection to the world. The world didn't know I was listening, but I did. The magnitude of that was majestic, but imposing.

It was just a long wire, stretched out into the darkness, listening to the world.

2 days drive through 5 states to get to James Madison’s Montpelier. After checking into my room, I walked the grounds with toilet paper tucked into the back of my jeans because I’m exhausted and that’s how I (TP) roll.

Visit from a rarely-seen neighbor this morning. We know there are groundchucks in the woods across the road but haven't seen one for years.

I used to think of May Day as a way to celebrate relationships with hand-picked or hand-drawn flowers.

But I'm spending all day deleting unwanted emails, unsubscribing from newsletters I haven't read in a year, requesting deletion of accounts on platforms that have turned scammy, and shredding old and uneeded paper files.
