I always figured the shark fin on some #fpv #drone models was because people thought they looked “cool” and i figured whatever beats your drum, folx, but i think they look dopey.
But wait! They’re for turtle mode!1?
Cool.
cori's posts about small, uncrewed aerial vehicles - sUAVs or drones.
Primarily quads; camera drones and starting to get into FPV. And 3d printing.
lol.
Probably similar ratios to whether or nit we should teach the “Latin alphabet” in the US. https://social.heise.de/@vowe/110825211845978167
@rednut @cori_drones_on ha i hadn’t seen that, but there *are* a few out there that look very similar!
@fichek @cori_drones_on It’s not a simple decision, to be sure, and I don’t claim to understand all of the pressures small business owners are facing today, particularly in a vertical like #fpvdrones.
At the same time it’s sort of like startling to charge extra sales tax a week before the tax rates rise. A tariff is a tax, and it’s reasonable to pass it on to your customers, but only when you’re paying it yourself, IMO.
@aviancer @cori_drones_on What sims do you like better? Liftoff definitely got me "off the ground" but only to a point, yet.
Seriously disappointing to see some of the best-known FPV vendors start charging Mr. Dumbfuck's tariff prices for gear they have sitting on their shelves.
Might be wrong, but it seems to me that if you have it "in stock" you're not going to be paying more tariffs on it so why jack the prices now?
@aviancer @cori_drones_on I’ve definitely learned a lot in sims - I spend some flight time in Liftoff most weeks (tho admittedly not nearly as much as I could) but I’m definitely learning more from actual flight. E.g. most of my non-faulty-hardware crashes recently have been related to adapting to wind in one way or another. And angle mode is harder than it feels like it is in the sim.
Minor bummer to find this hanging out on the carpet.
Better there than in the cat’s tummy, tho
@aviancer @cori_drones_on In the meantime I was able to get my little Thrinchenstein bunch of parts in the air today - this one’s a lot more solid, so i can learn to fly on it. #dronebuild #fpv
@aviancer @cori_drones_on https://pixelfed.de/stickbro right on - the superglue was fine as long as there were no … sudden stops. so that lasted for about 17s of flight time. I ended up Gorilla-taping the camera to the front of the frame for a few more (seconds of) flight before i bonked it into something else and cracked the v thin carbon fiber (*after* losing it for several hours of very muddy searching). Spare is on the way from China!
@stickbro lol i'm not *intentionally* using it as a basher - gusts, a tree, and my poor piloting skills and cockiness disagreed :-(
It's just made out of PETG plastic and i figure for a park cruiser i can try some superglue. if (when!) that fails i have a replacement shell on the way, but it won't be here for a week. And I was hoping I could use this for a bit of air time while sorting through the motor issues with my other 3" #dronebuild. Or moving its stack to a different frame. Or something.
Once i knew i had to do more motor work i had a decision to make.
Swap M1 and M3 on the little 3”
or
wait for a shipment and swap the stack in the little one for a new all-in-one and move *that* stack to a new budget ducted, padded cinewhoop frame
Now I have to add
OR
build this new 7” fellah.
I know I’ve moved on from my previous hobby when I land on https://drop.com/buy/piifox-walker68-mix-series-cnc-machined-aluminum-mechanical-keyboard?referer=IMAGROOT&defaultSelectionIds=990389%2C990392 and my first thought is “with $160 i could buy a tiny whoop”.
This is my first #dronebuild, and I Frankenstein’d it together out of quickly-available Amazon parts. The T-Motor F1507s I got for $65 / set are now $55 / ea, lol. Gonna swap motors and frack up *more* soldering, and maybe pick up a set of 1404s (but will have to wait a bit :( #amazonboycott)
Post-rebuild flight. Rebuild did not go as planned (replacement VTx seemed to be transmitting but no image and i really wanted to test the motor fix, so i put the old one back). *A* motor still failed on first flight; assuming it’s the same one until i get the logs later. #fpv #drone #dronebuild
