@evan the open web was built by a researcher at a particle physics bunker on top of military experiment and given away for free. Anyone could host anything, and anyone could read it without restrictions. Competitive markets gave us DRM, app stores and tracking cookies.

LLM produces bad pizza topping suggestions: funny

LLM produces bad "vibe coding" results: possibly ouch, but probably reversible

LLM produces unreliable medical evidence synthesis: there is literally no way to even know, let alone correct this, this was supposed to be the method for correcting medical bias itself and it's really REALLY fucking bad if you don't know if a systematic review was run slightly differently 1000 times and then cherry-picked

Haven't touched my personal laptop in many months, but as I'm about to take paternity leave, I should get it rolling again.

`git pull` my guix channels, `guix pull` to update the external channels, `guix system reconfigure`, `guix home reconfigure`...

And voilà, all configuration is updated to match my work computer! Apart from all the explicit differences expressed in code by separate channels. Having "infrastructure as code", in a real general purpose programming language, is key.

To spell this out clearly, the reason RAM has quadrupled in price is that a huge quantity of RAM that hasn't been produced yet has been bought with money that doesn't exist to populate GPUs that also haven't been produced to go in datacenters that haven't been built powered by infrastructure that may never exist to meet a demand that doesn't exist at all to make profit margins that mathematically can't exist while economists talk about this thing they call the "rational markets hypothesis".

18 years ago today, I was at work and my coworkers were talking about some YouTube video called "2 Girls 1 Cup" and they were like "you CAN'T watch it here, but you gotta look it up when you get home!"

After work, I decided to stop by 7-eleven to get two Slurpees so I could film my own version called "Two Cups One Girl" to try to trick people who were looking for the real video into watching my intentionally boring video instead.

I've still never seen the actual video, but here's the fake one:

So many good points in here, but this is the critical point which describes my experiences:

> AI produced the code more quickly than I would have, but between writing prompts, reviewing/scrutinizing code, and tweaking follow-up prompts to fix issues, I saved no time at all. I traded happiness for the illusion of speed (and more problems).

Gaza has become their moral exception. Their blind spot. Their expendable other. The news every newsroom twists itself to avoid.

But here is the truth: #Palestine has no army, no jets, no ships, no nuclear weapons. What we have is resistance. #Hamas is not a state military. It is the outcome of decades of siege, occupation, apartheid, and abandonment. And while #European leaders rush to condemn Hamas at every opportunity they get, they refuse to condemn the occupation that birthed it. They erase our right to resist, while glorifying the Ukrainian resistance, heaping on it weapons and praise.

In #Ukraine, Molotov cocktails are “heroism”. In #Gaza, stones are “terrorism”. That’s hypocrisy. That’s the algorithm of white empathy.

What is happening in Gaza is not a war between two armies. It is the wholescale destruction of an occupied people by one of the most advanced armies in the world. It is genocide aided by Western arms, protected by Western silence, and beautified by humanitarian lies.

I passed through Israeli checkpoints where soldiers looked at me as if I were not human.

Do not tell me this is just #politics. It is #racism. It is hypocrisy. The #genocide of my people is being watched from balconies draped with Ukrainian flags.

Report: British police forces "have announced they will arrest people for chanting "globalise the intifada" or holding placards displaying the phrase."

British Jews have been prominent in anti-genocide marches in the UK, & protestors emphasize that the phrase is neither antisemitic nor a call for violence.

"Intifada" comes from the Arabic root word nafada, which means "to shake off".

A quick reminder of a few things Mozilla/Firefox have done in the last *checks notes* ~year that I hope highlights that this is not a case of bad messaging but a consistent pattern of hostility:

- "Mozilla is going to be more active in digital advertising."

- "privacy preserving" Advertising telemetry enabled by default

- New T&C demanding a worldwide license (rolled back) & weakened privacy policy to support the above expansion (active)

- ""[Firefox] will evolve into a modern AI browser"

They lost both times. In 2020 however, they ran on, I shit you not - ending the forever wars, curtailing racist police violence, dismantling the migrant carceral system, protecting the planet from fossil fuel capitalism and oil production, and a little bit about income inequality that I think everyone knew they didn't understand so probably couldn't mean.

They won easily. By 7M votes. Trump was a laughing stock.
