@jerzone Survivorman was good about reminding you of that effort. Tossing in bits of camera retrieval video ups the authenticity.
@jerzone Lotta work to set up all those shots! Perhaps it makes one feel less alone to be filming and narrating for some future audience? I sometimes get dystopian when I venture alone, but crafting a story might help keep the focus positive.
@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite A5. Suspension is only really needed if you want to ride fast down very rough trails. It can also ease fatigue on long rides over moderately rough terrain. If you're mostly riding on fairly smooth surfaces you probably don't need it.
@mikeolson Brage is awesome. Have you seen this kid? https://www.pinkbike.com/news/video-10-year-old-wes-lukens-continues-to-impress-in-launch.html
@CavedaleRhones Hmm. Those back stories seem to sell wine. I'm a life-long wine-country resident, not in the wine business. Folks I meet from outside the region frequently tell me of their favorite little winery, that they've discovered, its wonderful owners, and their story. They've joined the winery's club and are thus recurring, direct-sale revenue, the best kind. I think the wine's story, like its label, price and color, are part of what many people taste.
@elperronegro Lovely article! The captions seemed to get garbled into the text at points though, reading on my phone...
@jerzone Trails also totally change perceptions. I remember hiking alignments before we build a trail, then using the trail, and it feels like a totally different place, almost impossible to reconcile with my memory of the pre-trail space.
@morgan @pete @ascentale @bikenite A friend rides his coaster-braked clunker on group rides and is still off the front on both ups and downs. 🤷♂️
@NNN @ascentale @hyenachow @bikenite I break difficult beads with my foot. I place the wheel flat on the ground, put my shoe on the side of the tire, then use my weight to pop the bead down into the center of the rim. It's still not always easy!
@jerzone Peter Stetina (a pro from hereabouts) is gunning for the record. https://strava.app.link/YwE3QnlcQVb
@morgan @maxissakitsune I have also had to build up the rim diameter with tape in order to seat a tubeless tire. I used gorilla tape and it took about 3 layers. (This was standard practice before tubeless-specific rims.)
@morgan Route near Truckee (where I know the trails) does not look great. The climb up the backside of Mt Lola is a brutal hike-a-bike. The Sagehen descent is steep & rocky and would be difficult on a loaded bike. The creek crossing over Alder Creek is only safe for a few months of the year. Climbing Sober Deer trail is not recommended, it's a downhill line. Same for Motherlode and Big Chief. For these it seems like the route planner maybe looked at popularity of the trails but not direction? These are all one-way trails.
@bsm @ChaHarper The other direction is not bad either! This from 2017, when my brother and I cycled around Skye. Someday I'll dig out my snaps from 1986, before there was a bridge to Skye, only the ferry.
@ascentale @bikenite Q8. Rode to a local park on Monday. #BikeNite
@valhikes Looks like there's some actual precipitation in the region right now. But you can probably hide under a tree while it blows through?
@lexiconista @tychotithonus @timbray Cool project! Might get more uniformly-sized index files if you named them after a hash of the word rather than the first two characters? Two or three-digit hash maybe.
@mikeolson My friends at Index did alright.
@geospatialist Surprised how many folks have cargo bosses on their forks but are not using them. Instead most seem to prefer bar and saddle bags. I prefer to keep my load lower. I love my Ortleib fork packs. What am I missing? Is it an aero thing?
