Waking up to find myself living in an overtly racist country was not what I wanted for today.

Just in case you still think the Netherlands is a paradise of "tolerance": our national elections yesterday ended up with the extreme right populist white nationalist party on top with a sizeable margin. Don't mind me if I have a small breakdown of faith in humanity.

I see left party leaders calling out for folks to reassure each other about still being welcome here, and I wish I could be that person reassuring. But as a queer person of color with an immigrant partner, I'm not feeling greatly welcome ourselves right now.

And the winner of the Dutch election is... The Dutch Media. They've spent decades hyping up every right wing racist party, allowing them to say the most outrageous things without any fact checking at all. The public has now given the most votes to a racist linked to Putin. I'm ashamed.
