@da_667 tomatoes are one of the best things of summer! i had bought six plants of different variety that are doing great. then, i also decided that, why not, i would throw some tomato scraps near them, forget about them, and see what happens. now, i have sixteen new baby plants that i need to find space for and relocate.

what kind of tooling do people use to track info ops campaigns across a variety of media? ideally looking for topic-based tracking “feeds” across social media and languages. i know a lot of researchers do this manually with sock puppets etc, i just don’t have capacity to build/maintain them.

It’s almost June, your yearly reminder that there is no pride without trans and non-binary people. Don’t support orgs that sacrifice them for a buck.

The AI industry won't survive if we have to ask artists for permission!

@nicr9 hahahaha old but gold

@nicr9 definitely, RE is a big scary word. for me, what feels different with scripts is the fact that they’re “all there” so you can usually read them sequentially (unless nasty obfuscation is employed). instead, when it comes to compiled code, it’s trickier and implies broader knowledge of how that code is run.

@xabean nice, kinda like knowing a language in a different alphabet

okay, here’s a question for all the reverse engineers on here: do you consider reading a script and understanding what it does, something with possibly a bit of obfuscation (nothing crazy, light xoring + encoding) as “reverse engineering”?

for context, i see this term used more and more to indicate “reading code” and i’m curious as to what people think/how they use the term.

colleague of higher ranking: what are you doing online today, shouldn’t you be on holiday?
me: anxiety doesn’t go on holiday 🫠

a few things i learned over the years working first in social justice nonprofits and then in various spots in a tech capacity:

- toxic workplaces are everywhere, including many many organizations that do lots of good things.

- if you end up in one and can’t afford to “just quit”—i feel ya, HATE the people whose only advice is “you should just quit”—be strategic and keep job hunting as you go. do not, i repeat, DO NOT give in and think “maybe it will get better.” it won’t, gtfo as soon as you can.

- if you don’t save yourself, nobody else will. i know it feels entirely too much but, for your own mental health, please stop giving everything you’ve got to that toxic place. save as much energy as you can and pour it into something that helps you get out of there.

and if i can help you, please do reach out. i’m dead serious, the people who know me, know. if i can make a connection for you, or even post on your behalf so you can stay anonymous, i’m very happy to do that. sending virtual hugs 💕

Good morning fedi friends! Got another question for ya!

My 18yo cousin is considering a change of major - from HR to #Biology.

Does anyone have a degree in #bio or similar? If so, three questions!

1) What career did you ultimately end up in?

2) Did you need to continue past undergrad in order to get to that career?

3) If you could redo college, would you get a bio degree again? If not, what would you recommend for someone with a passion for science but a dislike of chemistry?

Thanks y'all! If she was leaning toward the "T" in STEM I could be more help but "S" is more outside my prevue :blobfoxheartcute:

#askfedi #advice

@aronow not me, but a close friend of mine studied computational biology. after undergrad, she got her phd and currently works at a biotech startup where they figure out how to use technology to create new, more effective drugs that leverage techniques such as gene therapy and circular RNA. she’s basically an applied data scientist.

what i would love at this point is to find a weekly ics/ot threat + vulnerability news roundup so i can stop scrambling between a million feeds. is there such thing? can someone create it before i feel obligated to?

when i realize i forgot to have lunch (had potato chips instead 🥲)…but then i smell fried focaccia because my mom is still at my house for a few days 🤩🤩

@xabean oh that could be an interesting explanation

@fifonetworks lol i think the second one, but that’s interesting—thanks for sharing!

i wonder, what’s the point people are trying to make by posting on linkedin in b64? like, why?

@jessicaddooley ohhhh! do you think it’s our body’s way of replenishing of specific nutrients?
