Why google maps? Why?

Why?

Why does Google maps NOT display the name of the road of your route until you zoom waaaaaay in?
Why does Google maps not display the names of major cities or cities where your route changes?

American road trips include lots of farmland and an obligatory stop or two at Cracker Barrel
