@leaf Heh, I went to visit my dad for Father's Day, and he commented on my belly. Although in my case, I do have a belly I need to get rid of :)
@odoben Congratulations!
Cautionary tale about checking your thumbnails before uploading.
@UrbanCityCowboy I'm not super into it, but I do have a few nodes, including one in the attic.
@erkhyan Ah :( I wish there were something that would let you run your computer system reliably...
@jonas Nokia E71. In 2013, I had switched to a Nexus 4, and wasn't using the Nokia, so I lent it to my brother who was visiting Thailand and needed a "world phone" that supported the frequency bands there. He left it in a taxi and I never saw it again :(

@erkhyan Ah, I see... not cool that the voltage regulator causes a power glitch when it activates. I wonder if a standalone regulator/power line conditioner would help.
My previous UPS (the one that uses lead-acid batteries) has a voltage regulator, but I don't think it has ever been activated; the electrical problems here are almost exclusively due to storms (or cars) knocking down power lines, so I don't think we've ever had a brownout. So I don't know how well the UPS would perform during a brownout.
@erkhyan I think you've mentioned that UPSes don't work for you... can you give some more details about what the problem is? It sounds like you have long power outages there; do you let the UPS try to power things until its battery runs out, or do you shut down the computer before that?
Long power outages aren't too common here, but when they did happen, I would keep my cable modem and router powered until the UPS battery died. But after a while, I realized that the UPS I use doesn't have over-discharge protection. It drains the battery too much, which damages it, and the next time there's an outage, it doesn't last very long.
I'm currently trying an Ecoflow River 3, both because I want to try something that doesn't use lead-acid batteries, and because it seems like it has more smarts and hopefully won't over-discharge the batteries. I haven't had a long power outage since getting it though.
@jasongorman No, seriously - that's exactly what it is & it's a mechanism exploited by charlatans since always: https://softwarecrisis.dev/letters/llmentalist/

My apartment management decided to give me some extra grief today. I don't want to get into the details, but it's the kind where it's all there in the lease, so it's technically within their rights to act like this, even if they don't have to. I'm not happy, but I knew what I was signing, so yeah. Caveat emptor.
What this means is I'm going to need to haul ass on commissions and get to my next ko-fi goal faster than planned. I might need to revise the goal, though I'm working with the management to avoid that. I'll be in touch with everyone with WIPs asap. In the meantime, the shop's always open, and donations are always welcome: https://ko-fi.com/jonasdrawsstuff/commissions
Stay tuned for further updates, and thanks for sticking with me.
@odoben Do you usually travel by train when you need to go long distances? (Or maybe you just haven't had occasion to travel very far?)
I've heard that trains are great in Europe; I wish the US had a better train network.
@leaf It's annoying when you've built a (mostly) level base to stack other stuff on, but you finish one of the items that makes up the base. It's almost like you have less room after removing an item :)
