@bruienne I wonder if you drove through my home town of Kalkaska. Northern MI is usually drop-dead amazing in August.
@bynkii I'm sorry I missed your MacAdmins presentation in-person but have just watched it on YouTube. Thank you for a very very good presentation. I will be using some of your points and language as I work with our InfoSec and Cyber team to modernize our IT stack. Thank you, thank you. https://youtu.be/9uKL1n-f3Ww
Controversial opinion: blogs were actually good and the shit that replaced them sucks
Every day I become more convinced that Elon buying Twitter is like when AOL bought Time-Warner. It will likely end in a similar fashion.
Anyone want to see a dead body?
Twitter is no longer the town square. Twitter now has a wall around the square. Only members can view the speakers in the square. Government agencies should stop using Twitter since it is not open to the general public.
Twitter: I follow news and political giants, but all I see are bad people and arguments
Bluesky: I follow 10% of my old friends who were able to get out of twitter in time and sometimes it works
Threads: I follow my friends but I can’t see them through the algorithm of businesses
Mastodon: oh look a beekeeper in the Netherlands
last names are basically file extensions
@marcoarment Super solid for me so far. May the odds ever be in your favor.
Supreme Court? More like the Extreme Court.
@MikeTRose If you play these tapes in reverse, you'll hear Donald Trump confessing to disseminating top secret US intelligence.
@tbridge I have one foot out the door. Will hang out a bit to see the fallout but am actively looking for other places where the smart people hang out. I’ll volunteer my time and expertise at those places instead. My original account turns 17Yo in November. It likely won’t survive to adulthood.
Dear Mr. Vernon: We accept the fact that we must sacrifice most of our patience dealing with impossible IT situations, but we think you’re crazy for wanting us to be happy and cheerful the second we walk through the door. You see us as you want to see us -- what we ask is that you allow us a few moments to be surly and terse and quiet before slipping back in our roles as fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and lovers. Does that answer your question? Sincerely, The IT Club.

@dangillmor I've already left as moderator on several large tech subreddits I've been moderating for more than 13 years. I have just one local one and one small niche tech subreddit left. And I may leave those too, and with it, Reddit entirely. I will find other places where smart people hang out and volunteer my time and knowledge there.
Has Baby Jessica been rescued from the submarine yet?
So the crypto-bro on Jeopardy tonight ended up in the negative. Yeah, that tracks.
I've seen some threads here where people are speculating about how Aaron Swartz would have seen Reddit's official actions in recent weeks.
I am certain -- 100% certain -- that Aaron would have been utterly contemptuous of how the company, and especially its management, has been behaving.
I'm also certain that he'd be working to support the people who are trying to spin up solid alternatives.
i would watch the hell out of a muppet star wars parody film [@Thomllama]
