Tis the Glorious 25th of May you sons of mothers!

All the little angels rise up, rise up.
All the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up?
How do they rise up, rise up high?
They rise heads up, heads up, heads up, they rise heads up, heads up high!

@decryption @voltagex as someone that was young in a world without internet I am.. conflicted about this

I'm impressed that Amazon has some how found a courier worse than Aramex

I had never heard of COD Express before the last few weeks but my gods they are just utterly terrible

@decryption I mean while its true the factors driving that are not remotely linked to the state budget

Managed to drop to -0.5c last night, good chance might be in for our first frosts tonight. The air for lack of a better phrase smells cold. Its pretty nice

@firstyear oh I am stealing that

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear I have a soft spot for TOTP and consider it my preferred easy MFA option but I'm also hyper aware of *how* it can break and that my "high nerd" background is very very different to the average consumers

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear exactly this. The "its more secure" argument will only get us so far

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear what people fail to appreciate with for example sms 2fa is for all it security failings it is from a user experience point of view just stupildy simple. It requires no special hardware, software or training. Its deployable enmass very, very simply. Its backwards compatiable to just a stupid degree across geos and infra. Often this is the one and only real form of MFA most consumers (and indeed SMEs) are used to and then we present them with the current mess that is the passkey ecosystem and expect the (valid) argument of "its more secure" to be all that should be needed

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear a huge part of that will be enterprise usage vs real world usage. Enterprises are captive audiences - if the bosses on high say you use passkeys then well you use passkeys no matter how terrible the use expereinece is and of course you say its going great because no ones going to admit they invested $$$ into a terrible user experience because obviously the security tradeoffs are worth it right?

Then you watch them try and do that same experience to non captive audiences (external customers etc) and then wonder why the interactions are so, so much more different

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear its the wild seesaw of technical solutions vs business process and one often being designed and built without any thought for the other. Passkeys are technically a much better option and really should be the way forward BUT as the implementaions stand now they are a gods awful user experience and we are at serious risk of turning people off what really is a better option

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social
2025-05-15

@firstyear oh so much this. So many peopleare "it just works" and yet you talk to actual users and its "I hate it, I hate it so much, its confusing I just want it to work"

Well that's enough doom scrolling of watching a once respected republic slide into an authoritarian hellscape, time to escape into the fantasy world of tv shows like this excellent well scripted taut sci-fi pewpew laser fest about.. a respected republic sliding into an authoritarian hellscape

Well shit #andor

@daedalus well. most *reported* faults

Dawnstar Australisdawnstar@aus.social

@daedalus It was facinting to see the Jimnys alongside what is otherwise a sea of ginourmous suvs. Sure it looks like it might be made of tinfoil but the inside don't seem terrible and has a surprising amount of room in the back

@daedalus seen a few of those in our local shopping centre carpark recently and they don't look terrible?
