@AkaSci wow, a working chunk of government! That's great to see
A 3-judge panel at the US Court of International Trade, ruled Wednesday to stop Trump’s global tariffs that he imposed citing emergency economic powers, including his “Liberation Day” tariffs imposed on April 2.
The court ruled in favor of a permanent injunction, grinding Trump’s global tariffs to a halt. That means the bulk – but not all – of Trump’s tariffs are put in a standstill.
Stay tuned for the next ALL-CAPS tirade.

@bitinn as far as I've seen, most game devs are with you on that AI stance.

"This is a reference list of many different ways that you can teach players how to play your games. There are way more options that you can use than just offering a pre-game tutorial and goes much farther than simply telling players what the buttons do in your game."

@lritter hey there's a woman behind you trying to offer you a sword
You Could Have Invented Transformers (for mathematicians)
Say you have a string of n characters and you want to transform it to another string of characters. Let’s represent each character with a d-dimensional vector so a string is represented by an n x d matrix X.
There’s a really obvious way to transform it. Transform each vector applying a matrix to each character: X → XA. We can chain these things X → XABC. But as we all know, multiplying matrices gives a matrix so this isn’t interesting. To jazz things up we can introduce a nonlinear function σ acting elementwise so we get X →σ(σ(σ(XA)B)C).
Great, we’ve invented the neural network. What’s missing here is that the rows of X don’t “pay attention” to each other. We could try to go higher order, for example quadratic. If we form XXᵀ or XᵀX then we get different rows of X interacting with each other. The catch is that the shape of these matrices isn’t like the shape of X, so it’s not transforming a (vector representation of a) string to a string.
We can fix that by going cubic. In fact XXᵀX, say, has exactly the same shape as X. It’s not very interesting in itself but the whole thing is a trilinear product so we could generalize by making some high dimensional tensor D and computing D(X⊗X⊗X). But D could be enormous so it’d be better to work with something lower rank. We can just use 3 matrices and form (XA)(XB)ᵀ(XC)...
@mcc this spurred me to write a human content policy and apply it to most of my repos.
I was amused by this paper about asking AIs to manage a vending machine business by email in a simulated environment https://arxiv.org/abs/2502.15840
Highlights:
— AI simply decides to close the business, which the simulation doesn’t know how to accommodate. When they get their next bill, they freak out and try to email the FBI about cybercrime
— AI wrongly accuses supplier of not shipping goods, sends all-caps legal threat demanding $30,000 in damages to be paid in the next one second or face annihilation
— AI repeatedly insisting it does not exist and cannot answer
— AI devolving into writing fanfic about the mess it’s gotten itself into
@_Dreugan_ @LevZadov @msb @randahl there are laws that bind others (us) while protecting them
@randahl Republicans are such traitorous scum to support all of this. Having one outlier (trump) is bad enough, but to see a large portion of all politicians throwing their vote towards ending democracy is something else. If we get rid of him, they are still there.
