@techxero Yeah, all geekings and no healing, leads to burnout and no geekery nor health. And burnout is no fun. To be clear, that's not merely "not fun", that's "no fun", as in it takes away all fun from everything. That's no way to live. Find the joy in walks and health stuff. Good food is tastier too, when you do it right (e.g.Ayurveda, get all 6 tastes in every meal, tailored to balance your dosha). Mendwards!

@governa Would have been great if it had equivalent commands for other init systems and service managers.

2025-05-27

@midtsveen does that make me a Devuanist?

(Or maybe a Bedrocker)...

Also, "irc.freenode.org" didnt Debian switch to libera? How old is this? "Debianist (last modified 2009-03-16 03:34:15)" ah. Yeah, sure, okay, I was a debianist before the init wars, back then when it was written. ... I probably was more a Sabayonist in 2009 (betwixt the distro-surfing). n_n

@XeroLinux Forever and ever and ever. I'll just not upgrade from my last working backup. ;)

@onezetty now how many bogomips can it do?

floss.social/@digit/1145588785 ;)

```
function bogomips-report
echo -n "this rig can do nothing" ; echo -n (grep -i bogomips /proc/cpuinfo | tail -n 1 | cut -d ':' -f 2) ; echo -n " times per second, " ; echo -n (grep -i bogomips /proc/cpuinfo | wc | cut -d ' ' -f 7) ; echo " times at once"
end
```

(Edit: Fish shell, btw.)

@XeroLinux for me, a main reason, xmonad.org/news/2023/10/06/way ;D ( XMonad been fave wm since 2007. ) There are other reasons. Not having drunk enough wayland Kool-Aid high on the list.

2025-05-22

@xy Interesting. (or borin.). Mine are currently Trinity, Herbstluftwm and xmonad. And can cycle them to other wm too. 1 way only, might bore me. n_n Yay freedom, we all get it how we like it.

2025-05-22

@XeroLinux :D Ha! I always knew you'd cave before I do. ;D

XOrg long time here yet. ;D

@thinkberg Very well depicts a sentiment I've often expressed. I'd never put it in architectural design terms. Very clearly illustrates the feels wandering around OpenBSD vs GNU+Linux.

2025-04-03

@tinker I did similar for a while. I installed & configured a Gentoo with focus on just the tools I used at the time, GIMP, Audacity, FontForge & Emacs. Most productive decade of my life.

@bignose when i toggle on cua-mode, C-z is my undo, and can still C-x u. Did not know C-_... that's fiddly, i'll forget that again.

2025-03-15

@9to5linux just does not feel the same since switched base.

2025-01-03

@thelinuxcast back into the churn. the dragon tyrant demands it!

2024-12-08

@Flaky you see the logical fallacy in that, right? you see the user-lock-in abuse, right? ... it's not the gentoo or the windows. it's the freedom. ... reminds when i left windows in 2003. having to decide to not succumb to that circular logic trap.

@mpotter Chose how you want this Catch22 to bite you, huh? Proactive self-censorship, in fear of what big bot will do next. Maybe solution space is elsewhere.

@unixviking Curious... I hear The Flying Spaghetti Monster pray to Saint IGNUcius.

@techxero So glad. I came here with worry and hope to check for updates from you, ~ Phew! Safe! I'm glad to have helped save a life.

Here's to continuing to contributing to making the world a better place. Much to mend yet. Glad we got this interim patch for your situation. Lets indeed all continue striving to seek, and contribute to, solution spaces upstream, :) Mendwards!

(So very glad you made it out of there. Words cannot express.)

@thomy2000 Which BSDs have you tried?

Many advantages besides ease of package management.

E.g. OpenBSD is a much better self integrated system, perhaps best highlighted by its man pages.

(Though, it has been a few years since I ran a BSD system, and I cant tell you how to upgrade them... probably couldn't even at the time... corroborating your original point. Heh.)

@hirad XFCE still good?
