making the world a better, weirder place. code slinger, game designer, friend to animals

last night my players roughed up some snail emissaries of the Gilded Gastropod King, so now I've spent all morning thinking of all the ways that the combined armies of the three mollusk tribes can exact revenge on my little murderhobos, and that's what being a DM is like a lot of the time

based on a recent encounter with, of all things, tofu gatekeeeping

that bell curve soyjack meme. on the left: plain tofu is fine. in the middle: noooo! tofu must be seasoned prepped and cooked. on the right: plain tofu is fine

It is Junetobertober

the world's smallest random weather generator: roll 2 six-sided dice. Read them left to right. Any 1s are "Hot" and "Wet," respectively. Any 6s are the opposite (cold and dry). All relative to the current season and climate of course. credit: @seanfsmith

I've never run a traditional oldschool overland hexcrawl before. Looked at a lot of osr blogs and other guides. My players want to get from the seaside harbor town on the left to the mountain village on the right. They can either take the long road north and east, or follow the river through the woods. Each terrain type has travel speed modifiers, random encounter tables, and possible landmarks. Got a simple random weather tool.... I think I'm ready to go!

A map I drew in Hex Kit. It's mostly a coastal harbor town and a mountain village, and a lot of space in between. I colored it and slightly distorted it in gimp.

Walking along the creek trail path. Weird to see pigeons in nature. Shouldn't you be eating garbage or something somewhere?

@SJohnRoss so you're ... sad that people aren't giving you their games for free?

@insom Fixed, thanks! And thanks for reading!

@archangelic full of beans!

@phf it was indeed a 249k csv.

there may be something to "make em wait = they won't leave" in general, but pocket is actually shutting down so i don't think that's it.

the only thing i can think of is that they may be trying to spread out an expected spike in requests because of the shutdown

but again, it was a 249k csv..

@buckyogi new AND improved

@brk hxeresy!

@MummysLittleBloodSlut I think the answer is to tell your girlfriend you want a faster paced game. Twelve minutes per text is really slow!

@Ziggurat tell me you didn't read the article without telling me you didn't read the article

why would it take up to seven days to get an html export of my pocket bookmarks? is mozilla paying a child to write them all down by hand?

@rpg Ttrpg in the night-time econonmy: where can a group get a table in public at night?

Ttrpg in the night-time econonmy

I hooked up with a new group of players trying to start a new game. There was an initial struggle to figure out where to play. I would normally offer to host but we just downsized and moved into a small apartment and got rid of our big table. The DM was in a similar situation: in a small space with no table. So the question was posed: what is a public space where can we play on a Sunday evening?
