@go4LinuxMusic It would be nice if your precompiled binaries used a bit older glibc so that they will run on older distros.

@amadeus

Apparently Gitlab automatically recognizes the ISC text as BSD0 even though you can see that the commit says "Use standard ISC license text".

@amadeus @falktx

Why does it now say "BSD Zero Clause" ? it clearly linked to an ISC license.

@falktx @amadeus

I regularly encounter devs that work on commercial audio software using Linux as their primary development tool, but the company ends up only supporting Windows and macOS anyway.

@amadeus I also wouldn't really call LV2 and VST3SDK "frameworks". They resolve relatively little boiler-plate and are mainly used to create their specific plugin format.

@amadeus I see the section on "developer license fees" has a lot of faulty information.

HISE, JUCE and VST3SDK are dual licensed, this means a project can either release under the GPL (both gratis and commercial) or they get a proprietary license to release closed source products.

LV2 is not GPL licensed, but it's under the ISC which is very similar to MIT license. This makes it completely permissive and allows developers to create both open and closed projects.

@amadeus @falktx

Not for iOS and Android at the moment.
Btw DISTRHO is the "organization", with various projects. DPF is the plugin framework.

@amadeus This is my project, yes.

I thought we already talked about this in the past ;)

@amadeus Ah I see that Wasted Audio is already on the list :)

@amadeus Sure :)

We develop #linuxfirst so wouldn't mind having a presence there. I will also be presenting at the upcoming Linux Audio Conference in Lyon.

@amadeus More!

@falktx "Will you give support for this software? - Nah."

@falktx You can call it "Nahbridge"

Nice to see CDM cover music production on Linux and the alternatives that are available! FOSS or proprietary software; audio production on Linux has improved A LOT the last few years! Linux DAW is a one-stop catalog of free and proprietary plug-ins for Linux #linuxaudio #linux #musicproduction

@mic @amadeus I think it's a poor user experience. You have to elevate privileges to load it, and if you want to add more ports (which would be very common if you are using software) you then have to unload and reload the driver with different settings. That and you need to do additional "accounting" on which port does what, etc.
This is the reason why I never do it and have just given up on using Bitwig with software ports (I also love Midinous, but never combine the two).

@amadeus Bitwig can only connect to "raw" midi ports so only hardware connections. It is not possible to connect to other software that provides user-space midi ports.
The only workaround is to load the virtualmidi driver, which is a very poor user experience and for most use cases untenable.

@amadeus Oh they definitely have very different workflows and use-cases.
I also like Bitwig, but really wish it had proper Linux midi integration.

@amadeus if you ever want to help out with #wastedaudio plugin designs I may have something in mind ;)

@amadeus I don't use bank apps on my phone.
