Mostly harmless. I like cars and computers and lots of other stuff too. Mostly I like to fix things.

May the squirrels live with you forever.

@latenightlinux The dramatic reading at the end was the cherry on top! As an american who loves my country, I immediately understood the original remark and I think it was a perfectly reasonable and factual thing to say. Even if it would have been meant to disparage what's going on in the US (and it clearly wasn't), I can't imagine being so thin-skinned to write such a long and weaving reply. The fiverr reader really conveyed the vocal scorn nearly to the same level as the classic "Dot Dot Dot".

@eichin @vga256 My friend had a PowerBook G4 and I have always wanted one of my own. I've had both 12” and 14" iBooks and that's probably as close as I'll get at this point.

@vga256 I remember those, I think it was slightly controversial that the battery was glued to the bottom case which made repair more difficult. I had a friend who was a third-party Apple repair tech at the time and he kept ragging on the keyboard and (I think?) the display ribbon cable which was not protected well by the case. Beautiful little machines though, I really thought they'd replace the MacBook Air if they'd stick around longer.

@vfrmedia @lynnesbian Here in Wisconsin our personalized plates don't allow the letters I or O, requiring 1 and 0 to be used instead. For regular plates they don't use I and O in the letter group. (Not sure about the rest of the US as every state has their own license plate system.) I got personalized plates for the first time this year but didn't have either of those letters in mine.

@brie Ooh, this would drive me nuts. I wonder if the red sandstone had become more expensive or in shorter supply, or if the intention was to cover the gable with a facade as appears to have happened on the transept.

Or perhaps there was a conscious and active rejection of the aesthetic appearance as a distraction from the Divine, and from what little I know of Cistercian tradition that would be my best guess.

@ellnix @JoeRess I remember seeing the ads for it when it came out and thinking, you couldn't _pay_ me to leave my kid alone with that thing. I spent a lot of time as a kid talking to chatbots in an attempt to fake social connection, but ultimately it did me no favors... This seemed like the same idea with a shiny new coat of ✨AI✨ paint and a creepy little robot body. I feel sorry for the kids in this situation, but really, I sort of already did.

@gtucker5 @retrotechtive I have one, though it tends to get neglected... I've found lot more software for my CoCo and Apple ][ so they usually get the place of honor on the desk.

@vkc I used OctoPrint for a while on my Windows PC that's next to my printer, and it was immensely helpful for remote control and monitoring... but since that computer failed, I haven't had the spoons to set up OctoPrint on the new one. Right now I'm just using Yawcam and view the HTTP image feed which is good enough to tell if it's making spaghetti again.

@mausmalone I drive a midsize wagon... With the seats down and a roof rack it can carry most things a small pickup* or SUV can, and with the seats up and carseats in it can also carry my family. Plus it's a lot easier to lift things into the back than any modern pickup and is more fun and more economical to drive when I'm not hauling things with it.

*If such a thing can be said to exist!

@mausmalone Nice! That one can go up to Lion, though there's some funky stuff going on with the EFI if you want to install Linux. (I just put Debian on one of mine the other night.) I think I was mostly using Leopard when it was my daily PC.

SERIOUS mistake by #CNN not to provide real-time fact-checking during the #debate. They are letting the convicted felon LIE constantly, without ANY pushback, and then expecting #Biden to defend against it. And I don’t want to hear about how Biden looks tired, is misspeaking, etc. The convicted felon is straight up LYING ON NATIONAL TV with wild abandon, with no consequences. FFS.

@davidwilkins We have a Fusion which was the US version of the next generation of Mondeo, it's interesting to see the styling cues (like the taillights) that carried over. Always seemed a bit odd that the 2013+ Fusion looked nothing like the 2010-2012 one. Wish we'd been able to get the wagon or hatchback in the US as the sedan trunk lid is on the small side.

@vulgalour On my SAAB I have a set of crossbars that clamp on to the gutter rails, might be worth trying to find a set of those to carry the bike on top. I mostly use mine for stuff like lumber and have a strap-on bike carrier on the trunk. It may or may not clear your spoiler, but does not contact my car's trunk in the middle. This was a test to see if it could hold two bikes, but the answer was "technically yes" and I don't think I would trust it with two on there as shown.

A beige, beater SAAB 900 with roof crossbars clamped to the gutter rails. The crossbars have large knobs on each end to screw tightly to the gutters. A small stack of lumber is strapped on top, and the car is parked in a large lumberyard shed and surrounded by large stacks of timber and plywood.Same beige SAAB 900 at night, with two bikes strapped onto a flimsy-looking bike carrier on the trunk. The center of the carrier is raised so it does not contact the trailing edge of the trunk lid.

@ratsclub There are some fiberglass kits to make a split-window look-alike (markvfiberglass.com/vwh2001-19) but I wouldn't do that to my poor little beetle. What I'd really like is a ragtop but the roof is pretty much the only part of the car that's original and clean!

@ratsclub Hold on, I'm getting confused between type 3 and type 4, maybe. I'm not familiar with the Variant as that wasn't sold here, though I know the name. Is that a Brazilian type 3?
