Muungano

While at the Sociedade Nacional das Belas Artes for the 50DE25 exhibition, I also had the opportunity to see the much larger exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of Mozambique’s independence, proclaimed on June 25, 1975, following the April 25 Revolution and the Lusaka Accords. Unfortunately, by the time you read this article, the collective exhibition has already ended, as has 50DE25.

It was my intention to publish this blog entry weeks ago, but as we all know… Time flies like an arrow […]

Capturing history

As a teenager, like everybody else, I had to decide what kind of professional career I was going to develop. That society really put importance to that, got clearer every time I was asked `what do you want to be when you grew up?´ and my answer should not be something ridiculous like taller, happy or musician. Usually, I replied that I had absolutely no idea. Because I really didn’t! I saw grown-ups go to work in the morning and in my environment that mostly meant some office of factory job, […]

Magic in Lisbon

To keep things simple, I’ll repeat what is written on the Lisboa Mágica website.

The Lisbon International Street Magic Festival, launched in 2006, returns for its 13th edition as part of Lisboa Cultura’s “Festas na Rua” program, showcasing the best of street magic worldwide, celebrating the universality and timelessness of artistic language, in a truly surprising interaction with the public space.

Fifteen artists from 11 countries will present 175 shows across 12 venues throughout the […]

Walking in the heat

Halfway through the afternoon, I decided to escape the hot oven that I call my living room and take my camera for a walk along the shoreline.

To my surprise, a group of nice young men asked me to take their picture. Well, glad you asked!

A Jigsaw live at Fnac

A Jigsaw is one of those bands for which I have a special fondness. The first time I heard them play I was struck by the emotional vibrations shivering through the room. A warm feeling spreads, there should have been a fire burning to make the picture complete. A subtle, yet piercing violin over a strong rhythm section, instruments of which I don´t even know the names, a coarse voice telling stories about and from the throat of life. About swallowing without giving in, silent cries in the night and strangers met.

Definitely worth listening to.
