@gus I had a short story published in one of their zines years ago and it was a fun experience! That's the extent of my zine experience though.

@gus microcosm publishing (Portland) used to have a zine about making zines, not sure if they still do. But they're a great place for zine inspiration or to get your zine published (or your work published in one). Definitely check them out!

@sarahkedney phew, that's definitely a lot going on! And yeah exactly, I needed the headspace. I'm glad I did it. Good luck with everything on your plate!

@sarahkedney yeah it was a must-do for me because my ADHD has been extra feisty lately.

What's your Big Project?

Phew! 😅 My social media hiatus is just about over. I took a break from it so I could focus on a Big Project.

I think it's been over 2 months since I've really hung out on here?

Just popping in to say hi everyone 👋

The Big Project was a whole new online course about how to storyboard talks & lectures to make any "dry" / educational content engaging. And of course, strategies for storytelling with data.

Very excited about it 🙌

@ekatko what a cool question! I'm afraid it's beyond what I know as I've never used either of them and I can't say much.

From what I've seen, graphs imported into slide software from analytic software break a lot of dataviz rules.

While convenient, it still means the defaults need to be changed a lot so that it's effective, accessible, and engaging.

But that's a very general impression I have. Not a deal breaker just something to be careful about.

@Bextraordinary ugh yeah I was like... Daaaaaamnittttttt after reading about it helps complete the stress cycle. I do think it'd help me.

But it's so cold outside 🥶

@amber dress was something like $650, mostly plain. Accessories from a cheap dept store here.

Ceremony was in las Vegas which is a popular destination for eloping in this country so we found a cute place that had a simple package that included some photos. It was easy to find in that city. And just went to dinner with the family that came (like 12 people). No reception or anything, which is probably where most of the savings happened.

No regrets. It was *perfect*

@amber I think something like $5k in total, if that? It was a long time ago, back in 2008. But we purposely had a small, low key wedding and kept it cheap.

@LeanneCPowner @llmunro @thesiswhisperer ah, good point about that. I'm not quite committed to masto enough to commit to a monthly subscription/donation. I donate when I can (and did donate to my instance), but I'm not quite at the point where I could agree or commit to it each month.

@Bextraordinary this is a popular opinion with me. Agree 💯.

Loving this blog post from @echoechoR about why Design Ideas, templates, and Smart Art are probably doing you a disservice when designing presentations. echorivera.com/blog/stop-using

@LeanneCPowner @llmunro yes, definitely.

@thesiswhisperer and some others were pondering this as well, can't remember the other names right now 🤦
