@arstechnica The main thing when picking an alternative should be a platform that isn't owned by any one entity. Corporate owned platforms like Upscrolled can always be bought by the next billionaire, just like TikTok.
@Bandersnatch I could see this working for some; I've myself found me to be watching less TV than I used to, and it's getting to the point that newer TVs hardly justify their price. if you only use it for certain events during the year, you could end up saving money.
@aapis seatbelts have saved lives even on cases of racing incidents.
@Tekchip it's probably going to be extremely difficult, as it seems they've prepared for the eventuality of people trying to bypass the ads. I assume it only displays video files downloaded from their ad service.
@crackhappy well, they triedβ¦
@60sRefugee You should read more into it; the investigation found that the company skipped safety tests that would've exposed the design flaws, and one engineer in particular raised alarms about it and instead was fired. So technically you're right that they didn't know the hazards⦠because they didn't even try to find them. All to save a few bucks.
@Marvel Thanks for running Iron Man in comics; might not have survived it were it not for the MCUβ¦
@arstechnica if they're walking back on their commitment to consumer freedom, then we should take back the spectrum they acquired for it. Emphasis on "should", since, of course, I doubt it happens. The ruse is complete.
@60sRefugee the commercial airspace option is "cheapest at any cost". The "hard decisions of economic reality" would be on whether to spend on safety or pocket the money⦠and we all know how that ends; if not, ask the occupants of OceanGate Titan.
@algaeman
1. I'm well aware of the difference between AI and LLMs. But using the phrase "bullshit generators" in relation to AI doesn't make that distinction.
2. It's once again wishful thinking to frame this only by where LLMs are right now and believe that AI development will stop & not fix their issues within a few years, if not months. Again, being a realist.
3. Advertisement enshittifies everything, but ads haven't stopped people from using Google.
@algaeman May be a bitter pill, and I don't say this with any joy, but even if this predicted "AI bubble burst" happens, the idea that it's gonna go like NFTs, is just wishful thinking. Like predicting the dotcom bust would end the Internet.
@lollerskater Every online comment you make does this already. The alternative is to defeat the whole purpose of the Internet.
@Varpie Easy read when it's someone who gets triggered when told Ars should easily call out CP everywhere, regardless of policy.
@Varpie We get it; you think it's fine for Apple to provide CSAM apps to their users, adult and children alike.
@Varpie Man; putting a spotlight on Apple really hit a nerveβ¦
@Varpie Sorry; didn't know we had Apple shareholders hereβ¦
