"We’re now at a strange stand-off, where it is extremely clear it is unacceptable what X is doing, and governments make a lot of noise about how upset they are, without daring to pull the trigger on taking action. Everyone is waiting on everyone else to take the first move."

@krosylight @gabrielesvelto I think it could still be thermal paste. A CPU can easily heat up that fast if the heat isn’t transferred away.

Something that hasn't been made clear: Firefox will have an option to completely disable all AI features.

We've been calling it the AI kill switch internally. I'm sure it'll ship with a less murderous name, but that's how seriously and absolutely we're taking this.

Why American trucks should be kept out of Europe.

Probably no one here needs convincing, but still, good to raise awareness here and elsewhere about.

There is a real risk that more of these dangerous trucks get access to our market, for stupid and short sighted political reasons. We can't have that, as it *will* kill people if it happen, especially children.

Hmm.. no image preview on Mastodon... either I'm missing tags or Mastodon doesn't like AVIF.

Anyway, here is how the url preview looks on Discord.

Spent half of the day figuring out how to do social media image previews for my website's photo gallery.

Turns out it's a bit tricky to do when your photo library is all JS, but the servers fetching the preview metadata don't run any of that!

I've ended up with generating one html file per image as part of my Vite build step and inserting the "og" meta tags there. Is that a bit wasteful? Maybe. But it saves me from doing any server side logic.

Just in time for #caturday. This one carefully peeked out of the window as I was walking by.

A cat carefully peeking out of a window. The window is only slightly open so we can only see the head of the cat. It's an old double frame window. Only the inner window is open, allowing the cat to look outside. The outer window remains closed.

Don't you love it when streets get cleaned, but only until the bike lane? After all, bikers are way more likely to slip on leaves and fall so they surely don't need cleaning

The new multiple profiles feature is rolling out in Firefox 144! Stronger data separation than containers, easier to use than about:profiles.

I led the work on this feature and I really think it's great. I'm so proud to see it ship.

You can enable it by flipping browser.profiles.enabled to true in about:config, or wait for the rollout.

You can ping me with questions/feedback or share your thoughts on connect.mozilla.org.

(Blog posts coming soon on the internals and how we built it)

Screenshot of the new profile selector window in Firefox. This window is shown by default for Firefox multiple profiles users at startup, and it can be reached from a "manage profiles" menu item in several Firefox menus. The window displays 8 cards representing a list of 8 profiles, and each profile card shows the profile name, the profile avatar (either a custom image or an SVG icon), and colors borrowed from the profile's current theme. Each card also shows an edit button (used to launch into the profile, then customize it), and a delete button (to launch into the profile and confirm deletion). The 8 profile cards shown in this image are: (1) a profile named "💀 doomscroll / social media", with the 'elmo fire' image as its avatar, and a red theme; (2) a profile named "a Original profile" with my usual glitchy avatar as the image and a blue/grey theme; (3) a profile named "Coding for fun" with the smalltalk hot air balloon image as its avatar and a black/grey theme; (4) a profile named "CS Study & Interview prep" with a pink/blue theme and the avatar image of all five volumes of the CS classic TAOCP; (5) a profile named "math" with an avatar image of Bernhard Riemann taken from his wikipedia page, and a dark blue theme; (6) a profile named "music and recording" with a pink theme and a musical notes SVG avatar; (7) a profile named "no extra tabs!" with a star avatar and black/white theme; and (8) a profile named "Travel for fun" with a briefcase SVG avatar and pink/blue theme.Screenshot of the profiles submenu inside the Firefox app menu (also known as the hamburger menu). The current profile's name and avatar are shown in a large header card, here it's the profile name "a Original profile" and my usual glitchy avatar and a cyan-colored background. There's an edit button at top-right of the header that opens up the profile edit page where the name, avatar, and theme can be customized. Below the header card, there's a subheader "Other profiles", and all the other profiles tied to this profile are listed there--the same list from the other screenshot, except displayed just as a small avatar image and the profile name, listed out alphabetically.

Earlier this year, we wrote that the privacy sandbox was already dead, but now Google has all but confirmed it by discontinuing essentially all sandbox work. This is yet another reminder that far too often protecting user privacy yields to companies’ economic incentives. cdt.org/insights/googles-priva
