@doctormo @lps So… what about selling Inkscape with an introductory course. The payment may be divided between the presenter and the developers. It will help with the discipline. The course could be in (live) classes, which could be turned into communities, possibly with additional resources or services or activities like sharing work or periodic reunions.

@doctormo @lps But… using it may be a barrier. Or rather, learning to use it well may be a barrier. I’ve been using Inkscape for about a year now and know that I am completely primitive… I also know that there are very good tutorials out there. I need to provide the discipline to follow them and level up. But… I haven’t so far.

I’d be totally willing to pay for a good piece of software, one that feels good contributing to because I’ve used it and it is brilliant and it feels unfair to take and not to give.

It’s National Pet Day today apparently so here’s a poem about one of my cat’s poems.

It’s called ‘On ‘;..p’[[[[[[[[[[[[[;’;////////////////////////3,’

On ‘;..p’[[[[[[[[[[[[[;’;////////////////////////3,’

Upon returning to my desk,
having left it temporarily in search of biscuits,
I discovered my cat had written a poem
on my laptop.

It was called ‘;..p’[[[[[[[[[[[[[;’;////////////////////////3,’
and constituted one of her more difficult pieces,
but it was the kind of poem
which rewarded repeat reading.

I was struck by its experimental structure,
the absence of line breaks;
indeed, not one single space between any
of the poem’s 10,000 or so characters.

One of the work’s central motifs –
‘jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk’ –
was, by turns, reassuring and unsettling,
while the symbolism of ‘###################’,

hinted at our 21st century preoccupation with social media.
And who could not be moved by that devastating final line,
its message of hope piercing our hearts like an arrow:
‘`````````5555=======================’.

Here’s a poem called ‘For Your Own Safety and Protection’.

For Your Own Safety and Protection

In response to the recent flooding
of the poetry trade with cheap, inferior verse,
heavy tariffs have been imposed
on this poem.

As a result, it is unlikely
this poem will be read by anyone
outside my domestic market –
or as I like to call her, my cat.

Such news will come as a relief
to the thousands of people
who have already found my poetry
to be taxing enough,

and lends further credence
to those literary critics
who consider my work to be
of little import.

Creative Coding Amsterdam

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I've been helping organize the Creative Coding Amsterdam meetups for the past year. In fact, we just had our 13th event last Sunday.

The meetup itself has been around for about a decade, but I only got involved after a former colleague contacted me to ask if I was interested to take over. I answered I was interested, but that I didn't want to do it alone. Which is how

And I'm very glad I did. Together we've now organized 13 events and we've got the next three already lined up. If it's up to me, we'll be doing a whole bunch more as well.
