I admire the restraint with which Bruce Willis’ family is making their case here. What an awful disease this is, and how sad that empathy need be pleaded for as part of a teachable moment. cnn.com/2023/03/06/entertainme

@Miriamm I’m conflicted. One one hand “Holy anointing oil for King’s coronation to be animal-cruelty free” is more succinct. But one gets so few chances in life to craft a headline with “intestinal wax of sperm whales or civet secretions.”

Pulling old data off an antique iMac. Didn’t have a wired keyboard. So an almost-as-old iPad mini keyboard will have to do. Looks ridiculous but hey, it works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@jessrawk @MattMerk More often than not, it’s not intentional. When a record’s ready to drop, someone with good ears hears a similarity and co writing credits get added to avoid litigation. As with kd lang credits on a Rolling Stone song. It happens.

Fun video though. Hadn’t seen it before.

If you do one good Nerd Thing this week, make it tapping the 'I Don't Need a Refund' button in Tweetbot and Twitterrific.

These apps, in many ways, pioneered the modern concept of quality, indie app for iPhone. They gave us much more than they ever asked for with their subscriptions.

This is so accurate. Damn my chunky fingers!

Two pictures. One the sun and Mercury which is significantly smaller. The other a finger, a dot the same scale as Mercury and it says button to close ads

Jony Ive’s design of King Charles’ coronation logo is not at all what I’d have expected from him. Good on him. Trying new things isn’t easy when later in your career.

@viticci @nebucatnetzer @dennyhenke @gruber For me, writing is best on the iPad Pro. Like you, found my own way past the OS’s previous limitations. But the solutions that came later from Apple haven’t been good ones. Still struggles to be fully multipurpose.

Edit 2023-02-05: @ElenLeFoll has done a great video on using Debirdify. youtube.com/watch?v=PMzB2h2noE

Edit: Twitter has blocked Movetodon. Try one of the other services below.

Given that twitter is going to start charging for api usage next week, but has neglected to give anyone any info about rates, I recommend running movetodon.org/ one last time while you still can.

None of the migration tools will work after the 8th (give or take some timezones).

Here’s a list of similar services operating as of 2023-02-04

Debirdify debirdify.pruvisto.org
Fedifinder fedifinder.glitch.me
Twitodon twitodon.com
Mastodon Flock mastodon-flock.vercel.app

Flock is the easiest to use, despite the hilarious Windows 95 UI. It actually adds the follows to Mastodon, the others export a CSV file which you can import in the import/export section of your Mastodon preferences.

Twitodon found far fewer acounts when I used it (20 vs. 112). I don't recommend it.

Fedifinder scans lists as well. It also will recommend a Mastodon host to use based on where your friends are. (You can use it before you have a Mastodon account.)

Debirdify will search people who follow you as well. And also tells you which services it thinks you should use. Can also read lists, and gives a very long summary. But I get very confused as to what I'm exporting if I also do lists. Basically, if you want to import lists, do them first, they include everyone you follow. Also, don't freak if it just sits there for a while doing nothing--it will refresh the screen eventually (with great charts). But do double check and make sure there isn't an error in there about rate limits--it's hard to spot.
