@haraalonso Thank you! 🙏
A calendar for experimental* sound events in Finland
*Experimental = improvised, contemporary, experimental, audio-visual, sound & movement, real-time, performative, acoustic, electronic, electro-acoustic, [...],
@haraalonso Thank you! 🙏
@maiuin Thank you so much, this is such a wonderful comment to read! We are also part of those same communities, and when looking at them all together, it seems they are not so small! Thanks again <3
@stedi could you send us (private mention if you prefer) more details? I just checked with various online tools and found nothing, i.e. https://radar.cloudflare.com/scan/2031f920-048d-4c73-9d0f-2f8a72196fa6/summary
Then again it'd be quite surprising: the website is a basic jekyll minima with a simple script that fetches events from a Google Calendar. There's a Google form to add events, I wonder if that might be the issue. In any case, I just submitted the site to f-secure for analysis.
The new version is online (at the same url: https://experimentalsoundingfinland.github.io/) 🎉
What's new:
- Each event has its own page.
- The calendar page shows a condensed version for each event, making it easier to navigate the event list.
- Past event page (from the main calendar page).
- New design: automatic light and dark themes.
- In each event page there's a link to an ICS file to be added to a calendar.
Known issue:
The RSS feed needs to be fixed, but it's almost ready
Enjoy!
The new version is almost ready! In about a week or two we'll be able to share it with everybody.
What's done:
- Condensed view to quickly navigate the event list.
- Each event has a different page, useful to share on social media and other platforms.
- Dark/light themes linked to system theme, and improved accessibility (contrast, links).
- RSS feed.
- Social links.
- Past events section.
Almost done:
Github actions workflow.
We are working on an update. Here's a very preliminary video, showing how each event will become a separate post (useful to be shared on various platforms), a 'condensed view' option to easily see more events, a dark mode, a working RSS feed, and social icons. Thanks everybody for your comments!
Only in February there are already 14 events of experimental, improvised, contemporary, etc. sonic events in our calendar. Be aware that this is *for sure* an incomplete list as it's missing Musica nova festival and other events!

@nosfe do you mean a single event or a selection of events? I opened an issue on the Github page https://github.com/experimentalsoundingfinland/experimentalsoundingfinland.github.io/issues/8
Why we have made this calendar?
Because we have felt the need of finding a way to connect our scenes, which at times are so near yet so far. We wanted to find a way to get to know each other, what we are doing, where we are doing it. We wanted to help avoiding overlapping gigs, which is sometimes inevitable, but sometimes caused by not knowing what the others are doing. We also believe non-commercial, experimental music in Finland needs to be more known and considered.
@ahihi @antimanciand it might be complicated right now as it'd require quite a lot of in-depth work, and the idea was to stick to the original template as much as possible. We might remove it from the time being to not confuse users. But it's an excellent idea, and worth finding a way to make it work!
@ahihi it looks that jekyll rss plugin works only for blog posts, but right now the events are not blog posts -based. I guess your usage would be something like getting notified if a new event is added, am I right? I don't use myself RSS feed, so i'm definitely not an expert there.
Also including @antimanciand here to follow this.
@ahihi you are right, thank you! We need to check into that. Added to the issues on github: https://github.com/experimentalsoundingfinland/experimentalsoundingfinland.github.io/issues/7
How does this calendar works?
