If anyone needs a sufficiently complex example on semantic reference in fiction for teaching or to use in a paper, I'm sure this may do the trick (plus you'll have plenty of goodwill of the Star Trek community, I'm sure):
'So, one could reasonably conclude that not only does Patrick Stewart canonically exist in the Star Trek universe, but Jean-Luc Picard is aware of him from reading this book!'
(Roughly in the middle of the blog post.)

The best LLM for education? Widely advertised "open" solutions like Llama are open in weights only, providing no access to training code or to the all-important instruction-tuning data. What to use instead?

OPEN LETTER TO JOHN SWINNEY FROM SCOTTISH BUSINESS r.e SUPREME COURT RULING
If you are a business or enterprise you may like to sign up to this open letter to the First Minister and Minister for Business expressing concerns following the Supreme Court ruling.
The letter has a particular focus on business and enterprise and appeals to him from this perspective.
This more or less real time documentation of the current administrative carpet bombing of UK higher education was just pointed out to me. Sometimes it helps not just to intuitively know that life's shitty but to have some numbers.
I’m not sure it has sunk in yet how effective LLMs are at persuasion: there are now multiple empirical studies demonstrating significant, durable belief change effects
@mplouffe That's why can't have nice things.
Dear philosophy journals, it is sort of appalling how many of you still do not offer an RSS feed to track new articles. This is, in internet terms, an ancient technology that can be implemented cheaply. Consider making life a bit easier for scholars in times of an increasing flood of publications.

@DominikDammer I am indeed, thanks! Both are interesting and relevant, but what I'm looking for at the moment is more analytical and applied material.
What recommended moral philosophy literature is out there regarding proportionality from an ethical perspective? I am familiar with discussions in just war theory (e.g. McMahan, Lee, Shue); what interesting stuff is there beyond this?

On the + side:
- Record turnout of 84%
- The libertarian party that held the coalition hostage and staged a government collapse will probably get zero seats
- There's a chance the left-turned-authoritarian splinter party BSW also stays out
- Comeback of the Left party
- Of the coalition partners, the Greens held up the best. A 2%p loss is respectable.
- Conservative CDU <30%, despite predictions up to 37%, 2nd worst result ever
- Neonazis <=20%. Way too much, but still less than predicted
