Now that my cookie dough has chilled during Marpledom, guess I'll go in the kitchen and do some baking!

@palin oh, I am very fortunate that the worst I have to deal with is whinging about the sound of the rain. There are so many people dealing with water, water everywhere however.

2025-12-17

In an unrelated aside, I'm very tired of it raining and it could stop anytime now.

That is a particularly handsome bus

That cheered Lake up, no end

2025-12-17

I didn't particularly care for the 2004 adaptation of the book, but Rachel Stirling as Griselda was delightful

This episode is leaping right into a panoply of British character actors

Murder at the Vicarage, not to be confused with The Body In The [vicarage) Library.

@lilymarswrites my stockings end up a bit like Gladys, a shapeless lump, but boy can you get stuff into them when Santa arrives overnight!

2025-12-10

@lilymarswrites I have no idea! It's just the heel on the stocking ;)

You take the center chunk of stitches and put them onto a stitch holder, join the remaining stitches together for a couple of rows and then start to decrease each row till you're down to half the amount of stitches left. Then you connect them together and finish the rest of the stocking and start sewing the back and foot together

@SesameSquirrel @lilymarswrites @LK_877 those are lovely books, and Bill Nighy is an excellent choice!

@samsagreg @lilymarswrites @allanb I have a cup-shaped infuser, and I have a terrible tendency to overload it

2025-12-10

Okay I have pulled off the stitches that will eventually become the heel and think I remember how it will go. Hopefully.

2025-12-10

@flowerpot well, as she put it, while waiting for the inspector 'it's probably too late anyway'

2025-12-10

@samsagreg @lilymarswrites @allanb my mother stopped drinking coffee when we were kids and instead made a thermos of tea which became the strongest brew ever as it sat over the morning in her large wide mouth thermos....

@SesameSquirrel Joan Hickson is a much better knitter than I!

2025-12-10

@lilymarswrites @SesameSquirrel there were a number of literary walking tours that he and his wife Emily Richard used to lead!!

2025-12-10

@SesameSquirrel @lilymarswrites oh I can't watch the Ian Carmichael ones, he is so not the Whimsy of the novels. There were three adaptations in the late '80s though, with Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter that were delightful.

@lilymarswrites she was in the later adaptation of Gaudy Night, playing Miss Lydgate
