@aeryn_thrace Don't thank me before you see that they actually uploaded a video of every single coin flip 😆 It's actually such an overall excepetional project.

2025-05-20

@aeryn_thrace Yeah, that's how it works 😅 This is my fav example:

Preprint: Bartoš et al. (2023). Fair coins tend to land on the same side they started: Evidence from 350,757 flips (Version 2). arXiv. doi.org/10.48550/ARXIV.2310.04

@aeryn_thrace You mean like some registered reports for projects/papers/studies? Any discipline?

Tell Stories. Bring counter-narratives to life.

Foto von einer Seite aus dem Buch Censorship Is a Drag mit meinen Annotationen

Text: Libraries, on the other hand, may be uniquely well positioned to help disrupt the links between amplifier and receiver by countering disseminated propaganda with something they do particularly well: tell stories. As one set of tools in the broader toolkit, counter-narratives have proven useful in combatting the messaging of a range of extremist groups, not only through traditional stories, but also through the visual power of videos and memes (Allchorn, 2022).

@zombiecide That's super interesting. Thank you for adding this perspective. You really can't tell what distracts someone else or helps them focus instead.

2025-05-20

@victorgijsbers Which you consider rude, I see. There are people daydreaming or zooming out otherwise. You can't always tell what someone is doing on their computer/phone and you can't always tell what someone is doing while looking at the speaker. As long as it isn't distracting anyone else, which depends on noise/movement, I personally don't mind. Especially not in long sessions with several talks/topics. I'd rather have someone read instead of leaving/entering but that's personal preference.

2025-05-20

@victorgijsbers I am neurospicy and can't follow a talk without e.g. solving nonograms or sudokus. It's sad that everyone things that is disrespectful but I live with that. Additionally, not every talk of a session might be interesting, but instead of walking in and out during sessions, having people to stand up and creating noise, I maybe read through one talk. What I actually find rude is people talking in the audience or typing really loud, i.e. creating a distraction for others.

"The trees speak Latin."

Of course they do. This has a very private and public irony to it for me. I won't tell you about it if you don't know already.

I love this quote. Life isn't safe. Life is inherently dangerous.
