@dougbinks Redshift’s (Maxon) renderer is out of core renderer. I believe they combine tiled rendering and something similar to what you described to keep memory usage under control.
Bartosz Ciechanowski’s explainer articles are always masterpieces of both excellent educational writing and stunning interactive visualization, and his latest article about the moon is his best one yet:
I know people like to shit on these LLM models, but these tools to improve writing are a boon for immigrants.
It is the ultimate accessibility tool.
@castano I am glad to hear things are getting better. There is nothing better in the world than to have a loving family and good friends. You have both. Much respect.
Excellent analysis of ISA design and how micro architecture impacts architecture.
@gavkar BTW, following that link sends me to an unauthorized page, even after signing the agreement. Actually, after trying again it produces an 403 Forbidden error.
However, the downloads are available through: https://developer.apple.com/download/all/
@jimmyjamesuk @schwa if you are planning on porting your windows game to Apple platforms your tasks got easier. If you are someone who use crossover or whiskey to play windows games on the Mac now a lot more of those work and lots of them work faster/better

@rygorous Snow Crash felt more like a prophecy to me than fiction. Not the Sumerian stuff but how the society is run.
@BartWronski I also agree 100% with his take. I would also add that most people change their career paths and life paths multiple times as they change. So dreams evolve as well. I also liked that Harvey Mudd brought him for the commencement speech instead of some “super successful” person where success is measured by how rich or how famous a person is.
It is commencement speech season. Here is one that I really liked that breaks down “follow your dream” by @3blue1brown at Harvey Mudd: https://youtu.be/W3I3kAg2J7w?si=57sbr4uWu_VE1Cyk. Grant Sanderson also has great educational videos on YouTube that I highly recommend.
As expected: there were XZ-backdoor-like social engineering attempts at other open source projects
@gfxstrand @dougbinks forward progress helps but is not sufficient. It also needs to understand what needs to be scheduled when barrier is hit and also has to schedule more than the device can actually run or save restore simdgroups. Which would make the system inefficient. And local memory guarantees are similarly complicated.
@gfxstrand @dougbinks isn’t that simply not using local memory and barriers?
New blog post! Here we'll cover the speed of light for LLM inference for transformer models and why it's a useful metric. https://zeux.io/2024/03/15/llm-inference-sol/
Boosts appreciated :)
