@offby1 Agree that it's super disappointing. I feel like I need to visit MeTa to keep my finger on the pulse of the site, but there are some folks who seem to hate the staff who spend a lot of time there.

Things I did yesterday: went to session zero and built a new character for a large group mixed online & FTF Amber game that's different from pretty much any other Amber game I've ever been in.

Also with a lot of new-to-me folks because it's the ACNW crowd, whom I don't know as well.

@eirias @Devils_Rancher Credentialism is a real problem. Part of it is wanting what used to be a skill set from a lesser credential "in the old days"; part of it is gatekeeping including by SES; part of it is driven by H1B immigration in some industries. I have feelings about it.

Random rant re: claiming your online space as a creator of any stripe.

Create connections with your people, not corporate platforms. As in:

"My online shop" *not* "My Etsy shop"

"My newsletter" *not* "My Substack" (or Ghost, etc)

I get that for some people, Substack is currently their only viable option. They do not need the marketing boost.

And I've seen so many times, for two decades now, "Oh look at the cute thing I found on Etsy!" with zero mention of the person who made it. Zero. Reinforce your name, not theirs.

Repetition = recognition. You bust your ass to build your thing. Make sure people remember you, not a corporate platform that could turn on a dime. You deserve better.
