r/CasualConversation u/Accomplished_Arm3647 - 11h I accidentally started a 'Silent Book Club' at my local coffee shop So, here's a funny little story about how | unintentionally created a new social group in my town.A few weeks ago, | was at my favorite
coffee shop, deeply engrossed in a novel. An older gentleman approached me and asked what | was reading. We had a brief but lovely chat about books. The next week, | was there again with a different book. The same man showed up, this time with his own
book. We nodded at each other, smiled, and went back to our reading. Week three: | arrive to find the man already there. He's brought a friend. They're both reading silently. | join them at their table, and we all read in comfortable silence for an
hour.Fast forward to yesterday. | walk into the coffee shop, and there are TWELVE people scattered around, all silently reading books. The barista grins at me and says, "Your club is getting pretty popular!"Apparently, word had spread about the "Silent
Book Club" that meets every Wednesday at 4 PM. People just show up, read whatever they want, and occasionally chat during coffee refill breaks.I've accidentally created the most introvert-friendly book club ever, and I'm happy about it.Has anyone else
ever started something unintentionally that took on a life of its own?
After listening to the the latest Self Hosted show #133, I spun up a SearXNG instance.

It is actually working very well. I tried a version of SearX a few years ago and, although I liked the idea of it, it didn't stick. SearXNG seems to be much improved and works a lot better. Adding it to Firefox as the default search engine was a simple right-click too.

Thanks for the push to give this another go @ironicbadger@techhub.social... my money is on No Googtober being an easier than expected challenge.
Wondering what the point of more users is? On the pricing page under ACLs, the item "Restrict based on individual user" is not checked for either personal plan. I knew it wasn't for the free plan, but wouldn't that be the point moving to Plus and adding more users?

Or is it a case of the page not having been updated yet? ;-)
Another option could be a second hand Sophos XG firewall. I think it's the XG 115 models - you can install pfsense/opnsense on them
Oh boy. Another one that got too big... Perhaps now is the time for ClassicPress to get more momentum
Sounds like a great job. I assume US based applicants only?
JupiterBuddies?
@alexbrateanu@mastodon.social  I notice your docs link is for NextCloud 19. That is very old now. The latest version has carddav baked in:

It's not open source but encouraging folks to get a Synology is a good start to self-hosting and, relatively easy to maintain. My family no longer use OneDrive or Dropbox now
I'm still trying to work out where the offense was...

But perhaps you need to take yourself aside and give yourself a stern warning... just in case... 🤣
160MB!!! Those people lived in a whole different area of town!
There's a new electron Outlook app that will be replacing both the "classic" Outlook app and Windows Mail app. It does things differently and doesn't support all the old features of Outlook. Search for "New Outlook" and you'll see lots of comments from everyone who hates it 😀
Well, in the past there've been bosses who may have been better if they had been AI! 🤣

Enjoying the new podcast. It's the most entertaining new way to keep up with AI and its shenanigans.
Material Files from F-Droid is quite nice.

Back to where it all began, eh? That's where I first "discovered" you. So no more Thunderbird?

Pretty chill, keeps to itself, tends to its databases, hangs out with other hobbit software at the pub, broadly unbothered by the scheming of the wizards and the orcs, oblivious to the rise and fall of software empires around them.

Oh, the Electron empire is going to war with the Reacts? Sounds ghastly, sorry to hear that. Me and the lads are off to the pub to run some cronjobs, wanna come along?

I'm not sure Linus cares about sharing useful knowledge - just getting clicks and ad-views to keep the channel going.

He is a salesman, not a techie. The sooner folks move on from LTT the better for us all.

In this video, I react to Linus Tech Tip's recent Linux video. Of the 10 distros they featured, only two of them were real, useful distros. The rest were, frankly, so old or so memed (or both) that they weren't worth highlighting in a video of this tone. (One of them wasn't even a distro, despite the name of the video!) The worst offender on this list was Vinux, a (very old and extremely outdated) distro that focused on accessibility for the visually impaired. Frankly, this is the Desktop Environment's job, not the distros. And this distro was using Ubuntu Unity desktop (and an early version, at that). This was presented without acknowledging the age of the OS, nor when its last release was. They just poked fun at how bad the experience was. But those who don't know better might assume this was Linux's best attempt and Linux off as a bunch of amateurs. I feel like LTT should do better. I know this was meant to be more of an entertaining video, but they missed the mark on so many levels with this video. Clearly, they do not live in the Linux world. -- Chapters -- 00:00 LTT and Linux have a sordid past 01:08 Linux users and their wrong opinions 02:31 LinuxFX 06:06 Justin Bieber Linux and Hannah Montana Linux 07:53 Vinux 09:02 Edubuntu 09:57 RedStar OS 11:55 TinyCore 12:22 SystemRescue 12:55 UwUntu 15:45 An LTT Linux distro?

Well, I think I'd only climb out of it once I'd driven into my accompanying semi....
