Amazon has shut off the feed that allowed Delicious Library to look up items, unfortunately limiting the app to what users already have (or enter manually).
I wasn’t contacted about this.
I’ve pulled it from the Mac App Store and shut down the website so nobody accidentally buys a non-functional app.
If you are learning to speak a language, give the new ChatGPT voice mode a try. The new features make conversational practice very doable. I chat with it while walking the dog. You can interrupt and pause before responding, which were problems in the past. This is one area where AI can make a big difference, because “truth” is not very important. #languagelearning https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/113398218271967231

@ratkins @brandonhorst @drewmccormack Personally, I think I would prefer it to just tell me what I did wrong. Eg “you said ‘lo que quiere”, but it should have been “la que quiere” because “mesa” is feminine. In other words, it wouldn’t repeat what I do well. But either option would be nice.
Quite happy with how the mac version of Glisten is coming along. In the end, I've opted to use SwiftUI with Catalyst with the “Optimized for Mac" variant. This gives something that is not radically different to other platforms, and feels quite nice on the Mac.
This feels like the Goldilocks choice: the scaled-iPad variant of Catalyst didn't feel as nice on the Mac, and the Mac-native version would have needed a heap of work to get it looking OK.
@brandonhorst @glisten This is my thinking exactly! What we can say about LLMs is that they are good at stringing together words, because that is what they are designed for. When you learn a language, it doesn't matter much if something is true, just that the language is largely correct. There really is no better application of LLMs than language learning.
Glisten, the language listening app, is available for half price via the Indie App Sales promotion today and tomorrow, along with nearly 300 apps from indie developers.

I've been practicing my Spanish by talking to ChatGPT via the iPhone app. It works well.
You can ask it to tell stories, play games, explain grammar, or just have conversations. Also, try crosstalk: it speaks to you in a foreign language, and you speak your native language.
If you have a ChatGPT subscription (about $20 a month), you can use it. Worth trying for a month just to experience.
(BTW LanguaTalk has similar AI conversation features. Also good!)
@liztai It's not really unexpected. We all listen at a higher ability than we speak, even in our native language. I can certainly understand people saying things that I couldn't come up with myself. With reading/writing it is even more obvious: just because you can read a book, doesn't mean you can write one. (The difference is between active and passive skill. Active = writing/speaking, Passive = reading/listening)
