@KrajciTom @raffael That may very well be true. But there are tangible, recordable, and reproducible results in scientific studies about the "placebo effect" actually working to help people with various medical conditions, and those aren't scams.

@KrajciTom @raffael I thought those reaction videos that used to be posted several years ago about color blind people breaking down and crying when they put on those color blind glasses were bullshit.

But I worked for many years with a very smart man who was red/ green color blind. (He was an electrical engineer with the power company I used to work for.) Being color blind, and an EE, working for a power company, you can imagine he had to be VERY careful when working on circuits and equipment.

He was getting set to retire and we kicked in to buy him a pair of those color blind glasses. They were like $350 if I remember.

His reaction was genuine, and it was real. And he cried.

First thing he did was pop the cover off to one of our punch down blocks in our data center and he got down on his knees and cried again because for the first time he could tell the difference between the different colored cables and wires in the breaker panel.

Totally convinced me that those video reactions were legit and that those glasses did something.

I'm not color blind and I put his glasses on and things just looked very weird to me. Lots of yellows. Lots of blues.

I don't know if those glasses were/ are bullshit (the color blind one's) but I do know they work. However they work.

@KrajciTom @alienghic @artemis @JHB17 @Strandjunker Considering that in Germany during their elections in 1932 that there were a small block of Jewish voters that voted for Hitler (led by Max Naumann and his Association of German National Jews) it's not surprising. Ironically just 3 years later Hitler outlawed Naumann's "Association of German National Jews" party.)

Some of the reasons Germany's Jews gave back then for voting for Hitler and the Nazi party sound very similar to the reason people gave last year for voting for Trump:

  • Some Jewish organizations believed Nazi antisemitism was merely rhetorical hyperbole or a tactic to "stir up the masses".
  • Certain upper-class Jews felt Hitler's rhetoric targeted lower-class Jews and wouldn't affect them due to their perceived value to society.
  • Some were motivated by anticommunism, conservative nationalism, anti-Zionism, and anti-liberalism.
  • A few Jewish voters supported Hitler's economic policies and nationalist agenda, despite his antisemitic rhetoric.

The more things change the more things really do stay the same.

@KrajciTom @alienghic @artemis @JHB17 @Strandjunker Went to Juarez almost two weeks ago to get some dental work done and the Mexican-American couple I was with (they were from Las Cruces) both voted for Trump. They "didn't trust" Harris. Totally blew my mind. I'm so thankful Albuquerque is as blue as it is.
