@bagder did some preliminary looking. seems I got tagged as using curl because my macos build has a 11kb file named UnityEngine.UnityCurlModule.dll

I think that's just a placeholder to appease unity's module system, seems too small to be much more. But I'll have to go look inside the file to know what's going on and I can't do that until I get to the office tomorrow.

will be continued!

@bagder interesting! one of my games are in that list (holedown) I wasn't aware I was using curl! gonna have to do some digging here!

@bagder how does one obtain stats like these? (not arguing, I'm sure it's correct, just curious how you're doing it!)

2025-05-09

@darius yes. it's very good.

@dbat I don't have any super good recommendations, but this might be a good starting point: git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Too

You will probably also need to make sure the old commits are actually removed, not just orphaned, which may require poking the garbage collection or something. Again, you're in the weeds ;)

2025-05-04

@dbat my apologies if I misunderstood what you are trying to achieve, just trying to be helpful!

2025-05-04

@dbat You can write a script that purges all versions older than N, or every other version or whatever you want. Then you can force push this. You can even split out individual files from commits or change the commit messages.

The other people you are working with will have to "allow" the remote to overwrite their local copy when pulling, because that's not a mergable change. But, you get to have total control of what gets stored and for how long.

2025-05-04

@dbat I've been following your journey on this and I don't think you'll get much traction on the idea of storing just the most recent version from version control people. One of the primary points of a VCS is that it stores everything.

What you can do with git however is to mess with the history (caveat, I haven't used git-lfs, but I suspect this will work there too).

@Farbs good job!
