I don’t think Mastodon is any more difficult to understand or use than Twitter, Facebook, etc.

It just happens to be home to people that are more technically minded, on average. And because of that, we tend to front-load a bunch of information about the intricacies of ActivityPub that most people really don’t ever need to know at all.

I was confused "what are those spikes every ~3 years?" turns out it's when Mastodon, the band, drops a new album 😂

I still think URLs were the most fatal flaw that prevented URL-based OpenID from having a real chance

Telling people "your identity is your URL!" sounded so simple and convincing to me back in 2007

But understanding URLs deeply enough to be able to use them safely is actually surprisingly arcane geek knowledge - easily underestimated if you've worked as a professional software engineer

Just want to say that it's great to see all these familiar faces here! I'm not sure if Mastodon will be the new platform of choice for #gamedev but so far it's been a really nice experience.
