@benlockwood Teaching, at all levels, and the people who devote careers to it are not appreciated by politicians, administrators, or the general public, and most especially by researchers, especially in my disciplines (astronomy and physics). Research is always rewarded (e.g. with tenure), and more so than teaching. After devoting more than half my biological life to undergrad teaching, I'm having difficulty finding sympathy at the moment.

For the first time in my 58 years I am not encumbered with anyone else's Christmas plans. Mom's doing spectacularly well in Louisiana and has been medically cleared by doctors. All she needs is to be more physically active and my brother (who deserves a gold medal) is helping with that. I may just sleep all day Thursday.
