The horrible truth is that the image we have of any given decade's design aesthetic is actually false—the truth is actually the aesthetic of the previous decade, with grime and tobacco stains on top.
one of the best decisions I ever made in life, as someone who is a security professional who also tinkers in many other fields, was the conscious choice that every web app side project *must* be fully unauthenticated or single user with the authentication delegated entirely to the httpd.
none of the data these apps handle is particularly important and the design complexity skyrockets as soon as you start to think about authentication and user privileges.

The thing that really gets under my skin about these whiny ass techbros that constantly bellyache, bitch, and complain about YOU'RE HURTING THE FEDI BY BLOCKING PEOPLE is that curating spaces has been a part of web communities since the web has been the web.
The best forums on the internet had strong moderation and dealt with bad actors—the same with IRC. The best communities kicked out bad actors and people who attempted to poison those environments.
This is a common practice on the internet and has been for a very long time.
Crying to me about how much you think blocklists are damaging the infinite nature of the fedi shows me two things. 1. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about, and 2. You feel so entitled to people's spaces that you feel being told no will hurt the internet?? That idea is patently absurd. That is complete and utter bullshit.
Yes, people are going to block you. No, there is nothing you can do about it. This has been the way of the web for ages.
Shut the fuck up about it already, and go make a community with other entitled pricks who don't care about people's boundaries.
The fedi is big enough for us all.
Here's how the "Ship of Theseus" page looked in July 2003 when it was first created! Since then, the article has been edited 1792 times. 0% of its original phrases remain.
"Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free.
But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them."

It's perversely entertaining to watch Britain belatedly discover what it's like to be ruled by Britain.
