Finally got around to watching Everything Everywhere All At Once, and gosh, it's like everyone said: a very special movie, visually and emotionally dazzling.
We've been talking about Twitter dying for almost two months now, but this past week it's actually felt different. Palpably diminished.
"It’s not a coincidence that true works of art like Return of the Obra Dinn, Spec Ops: The Line, Outer Wilds, and Valiant Hearts: The Great War are sold as one-time purchases, instead of as endless, deliberately addicting grind-a-thons that try to colonize as much of your free time as possible."
The reason there's no quote-boost here is because people would say "put you on blastodon" and that is unacceptable
Twitter taking a nose-dive into the ground at the hands of an utterly feckless fool with zero impulse control or intellectual life is a bummer, there's no way around that. No matter what happens, it's clear that it'll become unusable for countless people who have come to rely on it for promotion and opportunity. That relationship is already over.
But I have to say, it's exciting to imagine what its replacement looks like in a year, and in five years.
Checked out the Christmas village in Philly tonight. I bought a gnome. The rest of the evening was spent trying to leave Philadelphia, which is not an easy task.
@tpa Yeah, gonna watch it burn I guess
@tpa I've been poking my snout in here every so often
Gimme my check back ya goat bastad
This year has left me feeling pretty gloomy about online media. Google's supremacy as the main traffic driver creates intense pressure to put out boring, disposable content with mangled keyword-heavy titles that are obviously just dressed-up search queries. Don't bother using images of landscapes or gameplay, you need a face right in the center. Web3 is all scams, but Web 2.0 is a dismal gray hellscape.
Try commenting on a right wing website:
Racism, conspiracy theories, even advocating violence, all allowed. Mild criticism from the left? Banned.
But their people will come over to a place like Slate, and when they're banned for calling our LGBTQ commenters pedophiles they SCREAM that we're suppressing right wing opinion and against free speech.
They don't care. They don't even believe any of it themselves. It's all bullshit. Musk is like every moderator I've ever seen from that side.
Feels odd but nice to play the opening hours of The Witcher III again after so many years. It's not quite the game I remember, but I guess I'm a very different person now too.
I can't wait until this massively overrated sweaty dunce is in our rearview
@neutrino78x Numbnuts decided to ban a bunch of journalists who cover him
@aintist I don't get the impression that's he's much into the whole "realizing things" thing
Well it seems like the Purge is happening over on Twitter.
@Pocket_cindy A bit - it's a spicy, savory sausage mixture with caramelized onions in puff pastry. Very Canadian!
