Office window open at work and I can hear Scotland the Brave in the distance. I do like it when all the pipe bands come to Glasgow and practice across the city ahead of the pipe band championship.

No users. No bugs. Right?

Spent $300k on a healthcare app that nobody uses reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1mm

Joke aside, it seems you spent money to build an app without ever consulting end users and you failed to understand what functionality they would want. This is the problem. It is an expensive lesson for sure. EDIT: added screenshots in case post gets deleted or some folks may not want to visit the Reddit especially vpn users who are blocked out by default without account.

A Reddit post from the r/SaaS subreddit titled "Spent $300k on a healthcare app that nobody uses." The post describes how the user and their investors spent 18 months and $300k building a "technically perfect" patient management app that doctors hate because it doesn't fit their workflows at all

Somehow landed on the NetBSD manpage of sleep(1) and they seem to have a rather unique take on what is considered a bug.

#netbsd

Bugs:
This sleep command cannot handle requests for durations much longer than about 250 billion years. Any such attempt will result in an error, and immediate termination. It is	suggested that when there is a need for sleeps exceeding this period, the sleep	command be executed in a loop, with each individual sleep invocation limited to 200 billion years approximately.

@ibrahimtencer Adding a word or two is NOT an inconvenience. Not doing so is just LAZINESS and not caring about your followers. A post like:

WOW, this is great! and a link tells you NOTHING.

It could be: WOW, this is great. Aircraft: LINK

This is not rocket science.

Narrator voice: It was, in fact, 10,000 lines of bug-filled crap.

PG: I met a founder today who said he writes 10,000 lines of code a day now thanks to AI. This is probably the limit case. He's a hotshot programmer, he knows AI tools very well, and he's talking about a 12 hour day. But he's not naive. This is not 10,000 lines of bug filled crap.

Aging as a software person is awful. Nobody remembers anything from 2 years ago let alone 2 decades ago so you're constantly going "WHY DID THEY MAKE THAT AGAIN IT WAS AWFUL" with ever increasing frequency.

Yes, "liquid glass" is a terrible effect for the same reason that fully transparent phones are the least desirable kind of interface you could have. Paper makers have spent hundreds of years trying to make the thing you read on as opaque as possible because it turns out EYES NEED CONTRAST TO READ

@tankgrrl Even the Washington State Department of Natural Resources was shitposting about this

"Songs people on the trail want to hear from your bluetooth speaker", a playlist shared by the Washington State Dept. of Natural Resources official account. It says "There doesn't seem to be anything here", there are no songs on the playlist.

Subject: [URGENT] Email deletion

If you have any old email in your inbox from Frederick Ironsides, late of the Accounting department, please delete them all immediately. A soul is tied to the mortal realm as long as its name is recorded, and we are unable to access the Compactus while this apparatus remains haunted. Your immediate attention to this would be appreciated, as it is obstructing the processing of payroll.

@apLundell I can remember when Netflix used to compete on it's selection/recommendation algorithm. Now, it randomly recommends things I've already watched, stuff other people are watching and whatever cheap films that Netflix has made. But it does have a less than 90 minutes list that's useful for old fogies like me.

This is, to put it mildly, utter bullshit.

You can store a decade of email for a million people—call it 10-20Gb each—in a 10-20Tb NAS box that costs about £2000 and sucks less electricity than a laptop.

The environment agency are gaslighting us. One wonders who put them up to it?

Platform 11 has seen some shit.

A pair of what might be cameras or emergency warning lights, I dunno, I don't work there, which are circular with a dark centre, lending them the appearance of googly eyes. They are positioned on a pillar at Waverley station, next to a sign for platform 11. There is a fixing below them that looks like a worried frown (think Beaker in the Muppets). It looks generally terrified.
