Happy hatchday @Cocoeagle !!
I am very tempted to design and build a M.2 NGFF (SATA) SSD to 1.8" ATA 100 adapter so I can convert my 2nd Gen iPod to solid state (and increase the storage beyond 20GB).
Acquired an iBook G4 yesterday. It's in pretty good condition. The battery is probably in need of replacement, but good luck on that.
But the hard drive is still OK ... although I am seriously considering getting a 512GB M.2 NGFF SATA drive and sticking it in there ... there's adapter sleds that work.
Might be a bit overkill, especially for a system with 1.5GB RAM max, and 1.33GHz speed.
But who am I to balk in the face of absurdity and not do it?
I look at it this way ... the upgrade will be good for my iPod (orig 2nd Gen) which I plan on hooking up to the system instead of crappy flaky Windows FireWire support. Once upgraded, and I also get the battery replaced in the iPod, I'll be super happy to have a 2005 era setup again :3
@DeltaWye you’re about to have a blast…

@Redfuchs I definitely have been seen a significant decrease in traffic overall, many more people have moved to bsky.
@opsnlops *chuckles*
@colinstu may I present to you the RONA Half-Ass commercial ...
then you decide how unhinged commercials have gotten?
My long-weekend project was building a new chair mat for my office space. Using MDF and Composite flooring, i made a pretty sweet one if I do say so myself.
@kootenay safe travels!
I am finally free of my accursed tether and these annoying as hell crappy 3M ECG pads.

@cyrin.inflatophin.com I appreciate every moment we spend in suit together. Great being friends with you and always enjoy the company when fuzzy :3
I love the fact there are some people out there that are really passionate about #retrocomputing to do things like hosting multiple re-implementations of Windows Update for older PCs.
@philpem solution. Put back in the ORIGINAL RTL8082 card and now everything works.
Not going to lie, screaming into the void seems more productive at this point.
@philpem spoke too soon. I was doing some simple tests with ping and that was working great, even was able to ping google.co, but as soon as I fired up IE5, shit broke, and with a restart the whole network stack is shitting itself again.
I have to be missing something.
*screams into a pillow*
It was the fucking DMA ... somehow the board was set to DMA3 not DMA1...
@protofoxriley spicy pillow!
This PC *REALLY* does not like NICs for some reason. I finally got this 3COM 3C905CX-TXM "working" ... but after a couple of frames the connection drops out, and if you reboot it fails to connect as a whole. It's really bloody weird.
It's almost like there's some issue with DMA or something.
