@artemist oh i see, yes the ptr16:32 operand form did get removed in 64-bit mode. you'd have to put the selector and address in memory and use m16:32 (my fav is putting it all on the stack and doing a `jmpf [rsp]`)

2025-06-28

@artemist since you spelled it ljmp i assume you're using gas? i dunno how well it supports callf/jmpf/retf in 64-bit code so you might have to resort to some clever .db nonsense

2025-06-28

@artemist yes they are? you can also retf

UPDATE: Confirmed! It's real! See ayumi's lsusb dump: transfem.social/notes/a9j1rc05

Today in vendors slipping single bits (or single bit!) of information into weird places:

I am *completely* certain that Google once made a USB-C audio adapter that has a *different USB PID* depending on whether it has something plugged into it.

I am somewhat certain that it's 18d1:5025 with something plugged in, and 18d1:5029 without.

@whitequark also salesforce, whom was sponsoring the slack plan there, has owned slack since 2021. so the real cost here was.... one slack workspace on infrastructure they own. genius shit

2025-06-22

@dramforever @saikou yeah i think something along these lines is what happened. but i don't see how to get a chelsio t6 into anything other than D0 so i pulled it back out because i don't need the +36w idle power draw lol

@annaghughes we are a deeply unwell country

2025-06-22

@annaghughes so like strictly speaking, congressional approval before: i don't *think* so. but i also think the expectation of people 40 years ago was that we wouldn't be unilaterally dissolving agreements and then engaging in war because we didn't like the agreement we decided we didn't want to participate in

2025-06-22

@annaghughes it's kind of a shitshow, is my understanding. the constitution says that congress has the power to declare war, not the president, but then they play footsie by saying, ah, well, it's not a *war* and so ...

the war powers resolution then requires congressional notification before initiating ~an action~ and limits how long the military can be deployed without an explicit authorization from congress but ~some people~ love to assert that it's an unconstitutional encroachment on the president's power anyway
