I'm a half-Welsh Mancunian who has lived in Tokyo since 2003. I'm married with two teenage sons.
I work as a freelance academic and non-fiction proofreader and copyeditor, and my clients include Granta Publications and a major trade organisation in the UK (see www.alexanderproofreading.com).
You'll often find me in the stands of Ajinomoto Stadium cheering on FC Tokyo.

@TonyStark That's the interesting thing: he does actually have no redeeming features in his personality. It's highly unusual to come across such people, but Trump is one.
OK for me to post elsewhere? I offer English language services to Japanese people.

Happy New Year to everyone!
@Natanox Yes, the death rate rises considerably in Japan during summer heatwaves, which are brutal - friends from the tropics complain about them. There is a lot of hidden poverty in Japan. Many people can't afford the aircon bills and end up dying of heatstroke. We're also seeing more climate-related natural disasters, and agriculture is getting disrupted by irregular weather. Still, it's good to know that Japanese baseball players are up there with the best!
What were the big news stories in Japan in 2023? According to Yomiuri Shimbun (a 'quality' newspaper), first was Japan's win in the World Series baseball, second was about an overpaid baseball player, fourth was about shogi (Japanese chess) and fifth was more baseball. The climate crisis comes in at ninth.

@elizabethtasker That's really good news! Four of us live in a house with a 60 A limit and it's more than enough. Actually, our bills are not too bad: about 6,000 yen per month in the aircon-free seasons.
