Okay, I've got the first steps down of my #Mastodon #migration to a new account -- I was able to bring over the people I follow and the people I've blocked. Unfortunately, although you can EXPORT all your posts and media in Mastodon, you can't IMPORT them into another account, which is maddening. Now to figure out how to forward everyone following me to my new account, so you don't have to manually do it (although I appreciate @snarl being the first one to do so).

I'm thinking a lot this week about how it's now been a month since I've gone to a Starbucks, when previously I went almost every day for several decades. Habits are SO hard to disrupt once they've been established, but Starbucks managed to do exactly that with me -- through $8 coffees, 20-minute waits, and stores blasting their music systems like they're a danceclub, unambiguously signaling that the employees would like you to get the fuck out now, please.

It's official -- a three-day outage this week at the weird generic massive Japanese Mastodon instance I belong to, which I joined way back in 2019 when I first showed up at the #FEDIVEEERSE and didn't know what I was doing, has convinced me to #migrate to an "official Mastodon instance" so that I'll get all the software updates in real time. New address is mastodon.social/@jasonpettus, but for now, can anyone recommend a good #guide #online for #migrating a #Mastodon account?

Read my ★★★★ review of #NealStephenson's newest, #Polostan, volume 1 of a trilogy that tells the 20-year saga of how atomic weapons were first invented. I'm relieved to say that this longtime favorite author of mine (going all the way back to his cyberpunk days in the '90s) is back in full form here, after his two previous books were both giant swings-and-a-miss.

How fucking incompetent is Boeing in the 21st century? So fucking incompetent that they're seriously considering selling off their entire aerospace division, because it would be easier than replacing their employees with people who know what they're doing.

A Chicago Bears player at an away game was so busy taunting the crowd about their impending loss, he didn't notice the successful Hail Mary pass happening directly behind him that let his opponents win the game in the final seconds.

I admit, I'm shocked to see the New York Times run an article positing that Kamala Harris was grown in a lab by a scientist, but here we are.

NASA wasted 76 billion taxpayer dollars last year on spaceships that blew up, fell over, and otherwise never worked, and now has the fucking audacity to proudly issue a press release about how "they contributed $76 billion to the economy" last year. Fuck you, you corrupt, incompetent morons.

[John Griffin, calling basic cable studio executives from the set of the TV paranormal drama #From] "Okay, I've built the mysterious lighthouse your marketing department requested."

STUDIO EXECUTIVE: "Hmm, yes, now could you also include a ghostly pale child dressed in an Edwardian tennis outfit?"

GRIFFIN: "I...suppose?"

STUDIO EXECUTIVE: "Season renewal!!!" [Shoves two full bags at Griffin with dollar signs painted on the fronts]

Screenshot from the paranormal TV drama "From," here of a ghostly looking child in an Edwardian tennis outfit, standing on the upper platform of a mysterious lighthouse overlooking a massive cove, because of course!

[John Griffin pitching #From to the basic cable networks] "It's a supernatural thriller with quantum-theory garnishes, about people trapped in a small town inside a space/time bubble, being hunted at night by super-vampires who eat them for food and who may or may not have psychic powers."

STUDIO EXECUTIVE: "Hmm, yes, but does it have a mysterious lighthouse?"

GRIFFIN: "It...could?"

STUDIO EXECUTIVE: "Sold!!!!" (Shoves two bulging sacks at Griffin with dollar signs painted on front)

That paranormal TV drama "From"s got everything! Super-vampires, lesbian heroin addicts, a creepy boy who recites nursery rhymes, otherworldly creatures disguised as humans except they smile too intensely, mysterious lighthouses in the middle of the woods -- EVERYTHING!

Also, the Indian tech genius who's only there to deliver monologues about pseudo-science to help possibly explain their otherworldly predicament. #From

Also, the vaguely Russian-looking straight white male who has decided to be an unrepentant violent asshole to all the other characters for no particular reason, so that all the other characters now have a human villain to deal with instead of just the supernatural villains.

Also, the creepy little kid who ALSO has a mystical connection to the otherworldly creatures, just like the Magical Retard, because of COURSE he does, and who forms an overly sentimental childlike friendship with the Magical Retard, BBEECCAAUUSSEE OOFF CCOOUURRSSEE HHEE DDOOEESS

Also, the black guy who curses at the otherworldly villains, Will Smith-style. "Aw, HELL no, damn supernatural CREATURES!!!"

Jason Pettus :blobrainbow:jasonpettus@mastodon.cloud
2024-10-27

Also, the character all the other characters think is going crazy because he keeps claiming he saw something otherworldly, even though they all the other characters freely admit that they've been stuck for two years in a quantum space/time prison and are being hunted by supernatural creatures.

Also, the dead character who shows back up regularly as a hallucination in order to deliver exposition in a vaguely smartass tone.
