This week marks the anniversary of the birth of a childhood friend who chose to end his life not long after dropping out of university.

This time every year, I think about how cruel the world can seem and how final that decision is.

He was brilliant, witty, and loved by many. Unfortunately, he wasn't good enough for himself.

RIP, dude.

The introduction of the company exculpates its wielder, diminishing responsibility.

One can do what’s in the best interest of the company. One can put the company before its customers, employees, and even sometimes oneself.

The company is not equivalent to that team, but it benefits from the same social pressures we have evolved to survive.

In lieu of an objective morality, every claim to justice can be seen for what it is: an appeal to the individual’s will.

Great scientists were employed to enhance the waging of war, accustoming the population to enormous machines powered by steam, electricity, petrol and diesel.

Now these instruments of war pervade our outdoor spaces. The roar of engines and threat of injury or worse fill every minute spent outdoors.

Peace means more than just the elimination of war.

Editors like Cursor take us ever closer to technofeudalism. Perhaps even the creators fail to recognise the second-order effects of their endeavour.

“GitHub Copilot Workspace didn't work on a super simple task regardless of how easy I made the task. I wouldn't use something like this for free, much less pay for it. It sort of failed in every way it could at every step.”

Gaming used to be fun. You’d plug a cartridge into your console, press the on button, and the game would start.

Now it’s hours of downloads, running out of disk space, usernames and passwords and terms and conditions and apps and settings and an hour later you’ve still not had any fun.
