Congratulations to John Stasko (who is not yet on Mastodon) for being named a 2022 Fellow of the @ACM for "contributions to the design, analysis, usage, and evaluation of software and information visualization"! 📊 🎨 🍾 We need more #visualization recognition in the ACM!

The new nuclear plant in France is late again. Its construction started in 2007 to work in 2012 with a provisional cost of 3.3B€. It has been delayed (again) in December 2022 to 2024 for a provisional cost of 19.1B€ (x5.8).
Le Monde has nice visualizations in an article behind its paywall: https://www.lemonde.fr/les-decodeurs/article/2022/12/20/les-derapages-de-l-epr-de-flamanville-en-graphiques-le-cout-multiplie-par-5-la-duree-du-chantier-par-4_5480745_4355771.html
Food for thought: even when an advanced country wants to develop nuclear energy, given the post-Fukushima regulations, it requires stratospheric resources and time.
Swiss cities call for the generalization of 30 km/h
➡️ Less noise to make cities attractive (road traffic=80% of noise)
➡️ Increased safety & space for 🚲🚶
➡️ Contested by economic & car lobbies and some right-wing parties
➡️ Monitoring of effects is crucial
@kristinHenry I am voting with my feed.
I left Twitter for good. It is becoming a right-wing propaganda channel and staying means agreeing with it.

A propos de ARCS, la revue Analyse de réseaux pour les sciences sociales, accessible sur episciences.
Le saviez-vous que cette jeune revue ARCS proposait de publier en français et en anglais sous plusieurs formats ?
- papers
- data papers
- software papers
- compte-rendus
@elm still, in a paper, you need to:
1. Introduce your point, 2. Explain your point, and 3. Summarize your point. A bit of repeat is necessary, but not more than 3 times.
Musk has used "Vox populi, Vox Dei" to justify reinstating Trump on #Twiiter. But the quote is from a letter from Alcuin to the Emporer Charlemagne urging him to resist such ideas, "Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit." Which translates as "And do not listen to those who keep saying, 'The voice of the people is the voice of God', because the tumult of the crowd is always close to madness."
OK, I get how so many new, and recently returned, data viz folks are enthusiastic about finding and visualizing data about mastodon.
But, maybe, it might be a good idea to actually engage with other folks on mastodon as people? At least for a while?
The whole, landing in a new place and digging for data to viz about it? Wow, just kinda a bit colonial. No?
Seriously, please unplug your broadcast a bit, and actually connect with folks here.

Tellement inattendu et dépoussiérant que je soupçonne le directeur de la communication de l'Inria d'être derrière ce pseudo "Airni".
On y sent de l'écoute, de la patience et de l'ouverture à la surprise.
Bob Laramee's article and site on visualization resources is here: https://sites.google.com/view/visres
It seems quite useful; hoping it gets updated.
@GaelVaroquaux there are a few devices for expressing one’s appreciation of open-source software, like GitHub stars. What else would you like to offset your frustration? Increase the number of letters of appreciation sent spontaneously? Can you imagine other means?
