Discuss.online is pretty awesome. 🤓
@m_f@discuss.online has joined d.o to help with all of that. If there are concerns let one us know and we can discuss it… online. 🙃
Yeah, it’s not been easy to moderate, update, & use. If enough people are interested, I’m open to keeping it running as a closed instance. The biggest issue is that there isn’t an out-of-the-box way for me to message all the local accounts to discuss this.
I hosted social.photo, which was a Pixelfed instance.
I had an uptick in users when I started to consider shutting down the site. It was the reason, ultimately, I decided to shut down as soon as possible. The software is awful, and I don’t want to deal with the issues multiplied by growth.
I decided to announce a shutdown by posting and hoping people see it because you can’t make an announcement to users on Pixelfed out of the box. I know there is an admin interface for it, but it doesn’t work.
Afterward, many of my new users told me they came from other instances that shut down.
This trend could be a blip as users create new accounts to migrate as they did before from their previous accounts. I know there is a user interface for this, but it doesn’t work.
Or it could be the terrible spam filter that blocks real users and allows bots. So, real users aren’t there to report bots. This is compounded by an uptick in new hype instances. These are sometimes poorly moderated instances full of bots awaiting returning interest from their owners to get cleaned up or closed.
Or it’s real!
Doo dee doo dee doo dee doot. Doo dee doo dee doo dee doot. So kiss my butt! 👏👏👏

Hahaha, great! I love a good P.I.C.N.I.C. problem.
I’m glad you’re happy. Sorry, I was so late.
Yes, I’m one of the admins of discuss.online. @m_f@discuss.online is much more active on here than I am if you need help quicker than I can get to it.
If you compare the fediverse to email it makes it much easier to comprehend. An email address is your user. A newsgroup is a community. An email host is an instance. Users and communities cannot move to new servers, per say. You can switch to using a different user or community but the address of the community is permanent. Moving your community would require asking all of it’s followers to switch to a new community.
Sorry to answer so late. I hope you are well.
Thanks so much!
Sorry, I just realized I didn’t update the exclusions list to add preview.redd.it. I’ve just updated it. Please, let me know if you have any more domains to add. Thanks a lot!
Is this a problem still? I meant to follow up but life happened…
I don’t normally follow celebrities but I do follow @georgetakei@universeodon.com. If I spin something else up I’ll follow him again.
If I spin something lighter up I’ll make it a subdomain. Maybe toot.discuss.online or something.
Great idea! Hrmmmm
Thanks, yes. I have been considering this for some time now but I have not had the time to decide on it or take action on a decision.
I’m afraid to lookup what “gooning joggers” means.
That’s a great idea! Or they could just follow from their own mastodon account. My issue is communication during outages, etc.
I have friends who are doctors; sometimes, they tease each other when one of their patients passes. You can tell they’re truly broken-hearted, but they make subtle jokes. At first, it made me feel super uncomfortable, but after talking to one of them, it’s just a way to cope.
I’ve seen this comic before and thought it was ridiculous, but perhaps it’s possible when people become desensitized to death.
I still think it’s hilarious, like all of the other ones I’m rediscovering, haha.
