@siracusa Great match. Worthy successor to Nadal v Federer and McEnroe v Borg.
Fascinated by file systems and low level kernel stuff. Audio/Video/Gpus. macOS and Unix.

@counternotions I am VERY interested in takes from a site that described the latest Surface turd as “dreamy”.
@schwa Really looking forward to the next ATP episode for Marco to tell us everyone in Apple needs to be restrained, while “devs” like him should be alllowed to do whatever they want.
@stevestreza @marcoarment Why did certain people within the community get a pass for the past 10 or more years? Back when non-dev people were having issues with Apple, certain podcasts had Apple on. When asked about this decision, people were met with “it’s a career highlight”. Now devs are hurting it's all hands on deck. Double standards.
@rosyna Also please improve network based Time Machine.
@colincornaby @helge I would be curious if that would still be the case in a world where Apple makes multiple os? Would Steve Jobs singular focus have seen macOS as a thing of the past and perhaps focused more on the iPad? For me, that would have been a disaster. All that said, more attention from executives would be great.
@colincornaby @helge I can’t comment on pre 10.1 quality but I don’t doubt you. It’s hard to pin down though. In talking to some users, I saw a lot of complaints about Spotlight, something I never have issues with. Digging down, it turned out they hated the way results were presented, rather than it being buggy. They still call it buggy though 🤷
@helge @colincornaby hmmm interesting. I have no hard data overall for useland stuff, but in terms of kernel panics and lower level reliability I would say things have improved greatly. I used to have one or two kps year in the early to late teens. Now I can’t remember the last one I’ve had. Zero since 2020.
@helge @colincornaby Was there a time when people didn't think software quality was declining? While there are issues, I just don't see it as worse than before. Discoveryd, panther and it's firewire data loss bug etc. Even Snow Leopard is vastly over praised.
@schwa Someone should do a downfall video about the lack of downfall videos.
@dmoren Perhaps you right. Time will tell I guess. I definitely think more needs to be done if they are serious. Once a year mentions are not enough.
@dmoren Again I don't think I can agree with that assessment. Around 2018-19 there were essentially zero games coming to mac, and certainly no AAA games. Like it or not, that did change after the M1. Apple did promote gaming during WWDC for the past few years. Something that did not happen in the years before. Once again, I am not stating the gaming situation is great, but it’s not accurate to say it isn't improving.
@incanus There’s a time and a place. Otherwise you end up in the crap.
@schwa Created quite a stink I believe.
@schwa Butter Nipples was my favourite release. We need another Butter Nipples year. Not an Impacted Anal Gland one.
@dmoren Not sure I agree. Is it windows level of gaming? Not even close. Is it much better than 2018/19? Yes. There were zero games coming to macOS then. Now we get 20-30 a year. I don’t see how that isn’t an improvement.
@dmoren Nothing ever changes anyone’s opinion about Mac gaming. Partly due to people’s belief that the only way for it happens is for Apple to follow the PC/Steam model.
@giuseppe Another in a long line of Gruber being a booster for this shit head.
Periodic reminder that DHH is a piece of shit and his products suck.
@Fleedar @colincornaby I wish that were true. My point is, I don’t think they think it will. From listening to ex-Apple gametech manager Nat Brown on a podcast recently, it seems that no companies have made money on Mac games.
