Flipper 1.3.5 is out. Mostly just some effort to make the active record and redis adapters Just Workโ„ข more often than they were.

We shipped out tshirts to some OG fireside customers. We did it to say thanks. But caring is always good business. Today, I got an email from one of the customers who just moved another podcast to us. They said the tshirt reminded them they've been wanting to migrate it. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today I saw someone with a neovim license plate at wind cave national park and said hi. Programmers are everywhere! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just ran into someone in a datadog shirt in the badlands. Of course I said hi. She said her brother works there. ๐Ÿ˜Š

So many goodies in rails of extras โ€” particularly measure_queries. A lot of overlap with pghero.

Anthropic is a real one for this. Check out their console message if you are bored. I'm sure they copied someone else but this is a brilliant idea.

@Michaelkeene doh! Fixed.

I want onboarding from Flipper OSS to Cloud to be the most seamless thing you'll experience. It's not right now.

Gotta beef up my docs/examples/setup game.

Quick easy step today was to add a flipper cloud example using redis as local store:

Great post by Andy on how to deal with big IN clauses in Postgres. I didnโ€™t even know about ANY.

Morning hacking in hocking hills. Love the nature sounds. The birds go nuts whenever a test fails.

I went electric and got a Mustang Mach E. Love it so far. Keeping my truck for hauling the camper but got so tired of driving an F350 full time for 6 years. Having a 50amp camper pad is now dual purpose for faster charging!

I know what you are thinking. You're thinking, "John, I miss your sweet sweet voice." Aw shucks. You're too kind.

Well good news, I have a little something for you. My giant robots podcast episode just went live -- sweet voice and all.

Ok, polacode is a pretty sweet extension. Snap beautiful images of your code to share online (or print and frame, lol). In the past I've used carbon but never leaving my editor is nice with pola.

entr update: I'm still using it. Here's a handy function that uses it to run a command any time a file changes (for Ruby/Rails). I use this all day long to isolate the tests/specs that get run whenever I hit save.

Reasons to reinvent the wheel. Completely agree. I did a talk on this "Don't repeat yourself -- repeat others" 15 years ago at RailsConf. Still one of my favorite talks and I just giggled flipping through the slides again.

Tried to install claude code via npm. Then ran `claude` in terminal. "Command not found". Used claude via web to figure out why. Needed an asdf reshim nodejs. Inception. Used claude to fix claude not installing.

Flipper and Box Out are now both riding the judo-auto-scale high way. Loving it so far. Was using something else, but @Judoscale was easier to setup, prettier and feels more modern.
