@a_dave_in_sydney I usually spend at least every second Christmas alone. My daughter either travels or goes to see her dad.
I treat Christmas as my celebration day - I don't have to pretend to be interested in other people's children and grandchildren, I don't have to field questions and the assorted responses to 'what are you doing for Christmas', I know that all that crap has come to an end so I celebrate. A nice bottle of wine ( which will usually last me a couple of days), what I want to eat eg chocolate pudding for breakfast if I want or a breadstick and pate for lunch, and I line up my Christmas movies to watch. This year the movies were Top Gun Maverick, Silence of the Lambs and Rocky Horror. I do take the dog for a walk, usually very early in the morning so I can watch the birds and avoid people. And I'll often keep the curtains closed all day - my telling the world where to go! And when people say, did you have a nice Christmas, I give a smug smile.
