@kasperd that is ok... just letting people know where I am :)

2024-11-08

@kasperd that'll come with time for sure, it's still fairly new and centralized in practice right now, but they definitely care about the ability for others to run federated servers in the future.

2024-11-08

@kasperd Ok that explains it - Bluesky has nothing to do with Mastodon, it uses the AT Protocol specifically invented for it (and a more scalable federated new social networking world).

2024-11-08

@kasperd Ah ok. But does it support Bluesky and the AT Protocol in general? I'm afraid I don't know how to make it work properly ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

2024-11-08

@kasperd maybe that tool doesn't support custom domain names as Bluesky handles?

2024-11-08

@kasperd oh with an additional Bluesky suffix? What kind of social media aggregator app is that? Anyway, it works on Bluesky itself at least ๐Ÿ˜…

2024-11-08

@kasperd that's strange... you're just entering my homepage URL juliusv.com as the username and it doesn't show up on Bluesky for you?

2024-11-08

@kasperd hmm, how come?

2024-11-07

Just since I'm rarely on Mastodon: you can find me on Bluesky at bsky.app/profile/juliusv.com

#Prometheus 3.0 is here! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ“ˆ
and #OpenTelemetry support is a major theme in this major release ๐Ÿ”ญ

I sat down with Prometheus creator Julius Volz to discuss this major release and more updates from last month's #PromCon EU 2024 ๐Ÿ”ฅ

@mx Yeah, I love Mantine! It's built mostly by one guy though, which is both impressive and a bit scary in terms of future-proofness.

Since the @Prometheus 3.0 beta with the new UI got released at #PromCon yesterday, I wrote a blog post going into my motivations for creating the new UI and showcasing some of the cool new features in it:

promlabs.com/blog/2024/09/11/a

2024-08-28

The goal of this new UI is not to be radically different with a ton of new features, but:

* Rewrite with a more modern stack (+Mantine)
* Make menus & pages cleaner, more consistent, and less cluttered
* Rethink a few minor things along the way
* More new features later

2024-08-28

For anyone who wants to try out the new
@Prometheus UI (>90% done) that I'm currently building for Prometheus 3.0:

โฌ‡๏ธ git clone git@github.com:prometheus/prometheus
โžก๏ธ git checkout mantine-ui
๐Ÿ” make build
โ–ถ๏ธ ./prometheus --enable-feature=new-ui

Happy to hear feedback :)

I created a short follow-up video to my last video about @Prometheus histograms, this time explaining how to show histograms as a heatmap panel in Grafana:

Version 2.54 of @Prometheus comes with a nice new PromQL usability feature that allows you to use duration and number literals interchangeably, so you can write queries like this:

๐Ÿ” time() - my_timestamp_seconds > 30d

I wrote a blog post explaining this new feature:

@kasperd Good question! Here's a preview from my "Understanding and Building Exporters" training at training.promlabs.com/training about that:

2024-08-17

Wrote a blog post: Why you want to avoid large, multi-target exporters in
@Prometheus monitoring, and why many fine-grained scrape endpoints are much better! ๐Ÿš€

A diagram showing a crossed-out multi-target exporter setup, alongside a per-process exporter setup.
