THOOOSE WERE THE DAYYYYYYYYS 😪

I've never been so haunted by a YouTube comment:

It's a YouTube comment with 21 upthumbs posted 16 hours ago as of when the screen shot was taken. The comment reads "It breaks my heart to see how far we've fallen". I'm not going to alt-text the person's YouTube handle but suffice it to say there's a generic system-created purple "S" as the account avatar.

Update: I am enjoying Bluesky quite a lot and am definitely over there more than I am here. There are things about it that are absolute dogshit but they are manageable so far.

@disappearinjon Set the global stuff aside, we'll deal with it. Keep yourself & the family safe and get strong.

Babe The Blue Ox!!! YOU GUYS ... I loved this band so much in the 90s, I have thought of them many times over the years, and just found out they are on Bandcamp and had a new album out in June!!

Peace to you, my friends, your tenderness is necessary for me
Peace and respect to every life
Peace to the fascination of fire,
Peace to the break of day at the fall of night.

"It turns out that if you put Elon Musk on the graph, almost the entire US population is crammed into a vertical bar, one pixel wide. Each pixel is $500 million wide, illustrating that $500 million essentially rounds to zero from the perspective of the wealthiest Americans."

-@kenshirriff, Wealth distribution in the United States

righto.com/2024/10/wealth-dist

The histogram above shows the wealth distribution in red. Note that the visible red line is one pixel wide at the left and disappears everywhere else—this is the important point: essentially the entire US population is in that first bar. The graph is drawn with the scale of 1 pixel = $500 million in the X axis, and 1 pixel = 1 million people in the Y axis. Away from the origin, the red line is invisible—a tiny fraction of a pixel tall since so few people have more than 500 million dollars.

This diagram shows the main functional blocks of the Pentium. The code and data caches are on the left, recognizable by the uniform rectangles of their storage. To the right are the integer and floating point execution units, the heart of the chip. 2/2

The die photo of the Pentium with functional blocks indicated. Some of the blocks are instruction fetch, instruction decode, branch prediction, and microcode ROM.

Here's a die photo of the Pentium chip, the original P5 version introduced in 1993. For this photo, I removed the top metal layer (of the three metal layers), making it easier to see the structures underneath. 1/2

A detailed die photo of the Pentium chip. It has complex detailed patterns, with some large rectangular regions. The color is brownish and reddish.

Yah I don't care what year it is
