@teichstecher Oder Dosen-Ravioli. 😁
@moonglum They don’t need AI for that. Not supporting old devices with OS updates has worked like a charm for years. If your old device cannot talk SSL with any mail servers any more, you will probably buy a new Mac at some point.
@OmegaPolice @joschi For what it's worth, I prefer having the problems caused by automatic updates over being afraid of updating, closing your eyes and ignoring the fragility of your dependency Jenga tower.
@OmegaPolice @joschi I _think_ that the issue was a conflict between a specific version of the JUnit Platform and transitive versions of JUnit Engine that were brought in by some other dependency. Not sure if grouping would have helped in this case.
@joschi In this case, the tests would not even run, because the conflict was in the whole mess of JUnit Jupiter, Platform, Engine dependencies brought in from different sources, including the build tool itself.
And those automatic updates are for supposedly non-breaking minor version updates. Semantic versioning, my ass! 😭
Renovate with auto-merge enabled is really a great way of showing plainly what a fragile, ramshackle construct a typical Java web application is these days: One day all your tests run just fine, the next morning you have a NoSuchMethodError and spend hours, maybe days in dependency hell.
@RosaCtrl I finished the story yesterday and really enjoyed it a lot.
Just yesterday I read a remark that current code quality metrics are designed under the assumption that code needs to be understood and changed by humans, arguing that this will no longer be the case soon, so that these metrics are irrelevant in the age of AI-generated code.
I think the short story shows very well why that can't be a desirable development.
@RosaCtrl I quite liked it, but not nearly as much as his novels, especially The Quantum Thief.
@RosaCtrl Will definitely do so!
@RosaCtrl Interestingly, I already own another sci-fi anthology called Invisible Planets by Hannu Rajaniemi.
@RosaCtrl I will buy the anthology then. Thanks for the recommendation!
@RosaCtrl Now I absolutely want to read this story. 😊
For about a week or two, I've had the impression that my Thinkpad T480s had become incredibly slow and sluggish. Maybe, it was time for a new laptop after almost seven years.
Today, I noticed I have been running in Linux Mint's Power Save mode for two weeks, which I switched on when I was traveling and forgot my power adapter... 🤦
